Tigers take 3-0 sweep over Saint Francis, Taylor to extend their win streak to 12

Marion, Ind. – The Campbellsville University Tiger Volleyball team traveled to Marion, Indiana, to begin their two-day campaign at Indiana Wesleyan. On Friday, the Tigers took on Saint Francis University and Taylor University. Campbellsville took the clean sweep, winning both 3-0.

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 3, Saint Francis 0

In set one, Campbellsville took an early seven-point lead before Saint Francis appeared on the scoreboard. They continued to extend their lead to 23-10 with kills by Brooke Hager, Molly Shannon, Camryn Rich, Hannah McGill, and Morgan Furness. With a few Saint Francis errors, the Tigers took set one, 25-11.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead over the Red Flash to begin the second set. The set continued to be back-and-forth until Saint Francis took a three-point lead, 17-14. While the Tigers played catch up, the set became tied at 22-22. Campbellsville gained a two-point lead and scored the set-winning point, 25-23.

To begin the third set in the same fashion, Campbellsville scored the first two points of the set. The Tigers continued their advantage over the Red Flash, 10-4. With several kills by Campbellsville and attack errors by Saint Francis, the Tigers' lead extended to 22-13. The Tigers took set three, 25-15. 

The Tigers had a .365 average hitting percentage compared to Saint Francis' .067. Hager and Shannon had eight kills each, and McGill had six kills to contribute to Campbellsville's 35 total kills. Rich had 27 of the 35 assists. Taylor Thacker and Shannon had nine digs, respectively.

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 3, Taylor 0

The Tigers and Trojans were point-for-point to begin the first set. Campbellsville took a 10-5 lead after scoring five unanswered points. Kills by Beyza Bektasoglu, McGill, Hager, and Shannon extended the Tiger's lead to 16-10. The Trojans tried to make up the difference, but it wasn't enough. Campbellsville took set one, 25-21.

The second set started with back-and-forth points until the Tigers extended to a five-point lead, 15-10. The Trojans fought back to tie the set at 18-18. Two attack errors by the Trojans and a kill from Furness took the Lady Tiger's lead to 21-18. Two more kills from Furness gave Campbellsville a three-point, 23-20. With two more attack errors, the Tigers won set two, 25-21.

To begin set three, Campbellsville took an early five-point lead, 9-4. The Trojans came back to tie the set at 13-13. A few Trojans errors and two Bektasoglu kills gave the Tigers a two-point lead, 16-14. Error after error by Campbellsville gave the Trojans the lead, but the Tigers fought back to tie the set at 19-19. Kills by the Tigers and the Trojans kept the set point-for-point until back-to-back kills from Furness and Hager, 23-22. Another kill by Hager and an attack error gave Campbellsville the win in set three, 25-23.

The Tigers had a .145 average hitting percentage compared to Taylor's .057. Hager had nine kills, while Shannon and Bektasoglu had eight each. Rich had 31 of the 36 total assists and nine digs. Shannon had ten digs, and Olivia Hellman had eight. 

Campbellsville will be back in action tomorrow in Marion, Indiana, to take on Indiana Wesleyan University at 12 p.m. ET.
