LTB begins season with largest win, most points scored since 2018

MCKENZIE, Tenn. Kaitlynn Wilks and Kayla Luebbe could not be stopped in the Lady Tigers' season-opener against Bluefield University, going 21-24 combined from the field for 43 points and 15 rebounds. Campbellsville shot 61.6% with 88 points in the paint in their 126-56 victory.

Thursday night in their opening game at Bethel University's Carroll County Chamber of Commerce Classic, Campbellsville secured their largest win and most points scored since December 10, 2018 when they bested Simmons College of Kentucky, 127-33.

The Rams opened the first quarter with the first layup of the game. However, the Lady Tigers retaliated with a layup by Courtney Pritchett and never looked back. Bailey Pedigo followed with a three-point jumper and from there, Campbellsville's offense kept steadfast control over the ball, continuing to widen their lead in the development of the game. Bluefield attempted to catch the Lady Tigers, but Campbellsville's defense kept a stronghold on the court, preventing the Rams from scoring and forcing them into turnovers. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Tigers held the convincing lead 33-9.

The second quarter began with a layup and a free-throw from Bluefield. Campbellsville's sly handling of the ball on the court to the rim time and time again propelled the Lady Tigers forward. Going into the second half, Campbellsville held a 45-point advantage over the Rams, 69-24.

Headed into half number two, Campbellsville put up 66.7% from the field and went 6-9 at the free-throw line. Bluefield shot 43.8% from the field and only shot and made a single shot from the charity stripe.

Into the third period, Boyle and Pritchett continued to assist their teammates, as they widened the Lady Tigers' lead over the Rams. A layup by Luebbe assisted by Whitney Hay brought Campbellsville to triple digits on the scoreboard. Nearing the last quarter of the game, the Lady Tigers led the game with a 71-point advantage over Bluefield, 108-37. Luebbe played only 13 minutes in the contest, but had a team-high 23 points.

Bluefield just didn't have an answer for Campbellsville's size and skill, even with their conversions of layups and chances at the free-throw line. A successful free-throw from the Rams ended the game with a 70-point victory for Campbellsville, 126-56.

By the end of the game, the Lady Tigers finished with 53-of-86 from the field (61.6%) and 6-of-24 from the three-point line (25%), while the Rams finished with 19-of-49 from the field (38.8%) and 2-of-12 from the three-point line (16.7%). The Lady Tigers had 60 more points in the paint than the Rams, quadruple the amount of points from turnovers (44 to 11), and 61 more bench points. Wilks led with nine rebounds, and Maddy Boyle, Pritchett, and Pedigo had five assists each.

The Lady Tigers will be back in action on their second day in Tennessee, to go against the Fisk University Lady Bulldogs beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
