MARSHALL, Mo. – The Tigers hit the road to the Missouri Valley Open this past weekend. Competing over a two-day span, The Tigers returned with two medalists;
Emma Walker and
Icart Galumette.
At 143 lbs., the highest placing Tiger,
Emma Walker took third. Walker started the tournament strong, winning her first four matches in dominant fashion (three pins and a tech-fall). In the semi-finals, Walker lost to Iowa's Reese Larramendy. Fighting back on the consolation side, walker earned two pins one of which was over Ella Schmit of Iowa. Walker finished the weekend with a record of 6-1 and scoring 26 team points.
Competing at 101 lbs. were
Gabrielle Medeiros,
Riley Banyas, and
Kiley McNerney. Medeiros went 2-2 picking up a decision and a fall ultimately finishing with a record of 2-2. Banyas went 3-2 earning two technical fall victories and a decision. McNerney finished with a record of 1-2 with her win being by technical fall.
For the 116 lbs. bracket, Galumette scored 12.5 team points earning seven victories on her way to a seventh place finish. Galumette won by technical fall over Nohea Moniz of Sacred Heart before losing to Brianna Gonzalez of Iowa. On the consolation side, Galumette picked up four decision wins and a technical fall, finishing the weekend with a record of 7-2.
For the 123 lbs. division, freshman
Josie Davis went 2-2 picking up two pins and scoring 6.5 team points.
At 130 lbs.,
Cameron Ortiz earned three pins, a tech-fall, and a decision win with an overall record of 5-2 on the weekend. Ortiz scored 10.5 team points. Also competing at 130 lbs. was freshman
Olivia Messerly went 2-2 winning her matches by tech-fall and pin.
Four Tigers competed at 136 lbs.
Taylor Howell,
Addison Messerly, Gabriella Perez, and
Sofia Poblano. Senior
Taylor Howell earned three pins and a technical fall and finished with a record of 4-2, scoring ten team points. Messerly scored 10.5 team points earning two pins, two tech falls a decision and a forfeit finishing with a record of 5-2. Perez went 4-2 and earned 6.5 team points. Poblano went 2-2 and scored three team points.
Competing at 155 lbs., was
Sierra Chavez who received a bye and then lost her first match to Destiny Rodrigues of McKendree University. Chavez fought back on the consolation side earning three decision wins and a pin, but fell in consolation round six.
The Tigers will next be competing at the University of the Cumberlands Duals Tournament on December 1st and 2nd.
