Naperville, Ill. – The Lady Tigers traveled to Naperville, Illinois, to compete in the North Central College Open. Campbellsville returned with five medalists: Emma Walker and Icart Galumette placing third, Gaby Perez placing fourth, Josie Davis placing fifth, and Gabrielle Medeiros placing sixth. The Lady Tigers pinned 18 of their opponents, scoring 96.5 team points to come back with a fourth-place team finish.
Starting for the Lady Tigers in the 101 lbs. weight class, Riley Banyas earned a pin over Daniela Bernal of Loras before losing in round two to Erin Hikiji of the University of Providence. Banyas pinned her next opponent in round three and won by decision in round four over Indiana Tech's Becca Waterman.
After a first-round bye at 109 lbs., Mediros pinned Indiana Tech's Allison Hancher before losing to Jaslynn Gallegos, an unattached wrestler, in round three. On the back side, Medeiros picked up a 7-4 decision win over Alexis Winecke of Wisconsin-Stevens Point before losing in the consolation semifinals. Medeiros injury defaulted in her match for fifth place, ending the day with a sixth-place individual finish.
At 116 lbs., Galumette scored 19.5 team points. Galumette picked up a pin and a technical fall in her first two matches. In round three, Galumette won by decision over Arianna Hernandez of North Central but fell to North Central's Jenessa George in the semifinals. In the following two rounds, Galumette won by pin and technical fall over her opponents, earning a third-place finish.
In the 123 lbs. weight class, Davis scored 14 team points. Davis earned two quick pins in the first two matches. In the quarterfinals, Davis lost to Alexandra Waitsman of William Jewell College. Davis earned a technical fall over Angela LoRusso of Adrian College before losing to Iowa's Cali Leng, 8-2. In her final match, Davis won over Isabell Silva of Indiana Tech (12-12) by criteria.
At 130 lbs., Olivia Messerly won by fall over Ava Griffey of William Jewell College in the first round. Messerly lost her next match by a decision but won her following three with a decision win, a technical fall, and a pin. In her final match, Messerly lost to Alexis Lazar, an unattached wrestler.
Perez, scoring 14.5 team points, competed in the 136 lbs. weight class. After winning in the first round by injury default, Perez had two close victories by decision. Perez lost to Iowa's Anakay Besco in the semifinals, 3-2. Perez pinned Amor Tuttle of Wisconsin-Stevens Point before losing to Sydney Park of North Central, finishing in fourth place individually.
At 143 lbs., Walker scored 20.5 team points. Walker pinned her first two opponents before losing to Athena Willden of William Jewell College in the quarterfinals. Following the loss, Walker went on to technical fall her next three opponents, earning her a third-place individual finish.
Sierra Chavez won her first match by technical fall over Adrian College's Isabel Worthing at 155 lbs. Chavez lost her following match but bounced back to win two matches on the consolation side. Chavez won by fall over Ella Childress of William Jewell College and by decision over Niyasia McCampbell of Lakeland University. Chavez lost her final match to Makena Schramm of Midland University, 6-1.
Tune in as the Lady Tigers will be back in action on December 15th in Fort Worth, Texas, to compete at the U.S. Open. Following the holiday break, Campbellsville will travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, on January 5th to compete at the NWCA National Duals.
