Tigers win NCCAA Indoor Championship for the first time in program history

CEDARVILLE, OH – For the first time in program history, the Tigers won the NCCAA National Indoor Track & Field Championships with a team score of 137.

Campbellsville began their meet with a boast of confidence from the jumps crew. The Tigers swept the All-American podium in both the long jump and the triple jump. In the long jump, Kilan Macklin won the event with a mark of 7.05m, just .10 shy of his best. CamRon Hamby placed 2nd in the event at 6.88m, and Corey Smith was close behind Hamby, earning 3rd and the final All-American spot at 6.67m. Greg Carr was 5th overall in the long jump for Campbellsville at 6.48m.

The triple jump saw Matthew Mays earn the top prize for the Tigers in 14.47m, .05 off his best. Mays was followed up by Smith and Hamby. The duo placed 2nd and 3rd, with Smith earning the silver in 14.44m and Hamby earning the bronze medal in 14.24m. Macklin and Jaron Hamby rounded out scoring for the Tigers in the triple jump. Macklin earned the Tigers a 5th place finish of 13.46m, while J. Hamby was 8th overall in 12.84m.

Macklin put eight more points on the board for the team in the high jump. He tied the school record, which was set by Brayden Russell back in the 2018-19 season, also at the NCCAA Indoor Championships of 2.00m. Macklin earned the silver medal in the event. Together the jumps crew put together 65 of the Tiger's 138 points.

On the sprints side of the track, Elijah Moore and Campbell Rawlings brought in 14 points for the team in the 60m finals and earned All-American honors in the process. Moore earned the silver medal with his time of 6.94, and Campbell was 3rd in the event at 6.98. Moore returned in the 200m with a 5th-place finishing time of 22.85.

No point went unnoticed for the Tigers, with Maikyah Stowe earning one point in the 400m with his 8th-place finish of 51.65. The two relays of the 4x200m and 4x400m gave Campbellsville nine more points to their total. In the 4x200m relay, Miah Chatmond, Jackson Harrell, Joshua Morris, and J. Hamby placed 5th on the day in 1:35.03. The 4x400m relay had Chatmond, Stowe, Noah Rogers, and Zachary Phelps on the team with a 4th place finish of 3:29.66.

The final sprinting event of the meet that saw points was the 60m hurdles. Ishan Cooper and Carr qualified for the finals on the second day of the meet. Cooper placed 4th in the event in 8.70, only .02 off All-American honors. Carr was 5th in the event in 8.88.

Shawn Little returned to form and won the third NCCAA crown of his career. This time Little won the 5,000m in 15:18.81 after pulling away with five laps to go in the race and won the race by nearly 20 seconds. Little earned points on the second day of the meet in the 3,000m run, placing 5th and running a time of 8:50.70.

The Tigers 4x800m relay and distance medley relay earned the bronze medal and All-American honors. In the 4x800m relay, Lukas Smithson, Myles Smithson, Alex Steen, and Aiden Tucker ran a school record time of 8:06.82. That time takes off the record that stood since the 2016-17 school year by Bret Crawford, Camryn Snapp, Christ Stoeckel, and coach Corbin Harris. In the distance medley relay, L. Smithson, M. Smithson, Steen, and Rogers beat out SAGU's team by .06 seconds in 10:49.71. Myles had the inside lane open with 50 meters to go in the race and was able to surge by SAGU at the finish line.

Caleb Baumgardner and Cainan Daniels both competed in the heptathlon to earn four points for the team. The duo's best performance came in the pole vault, where they both hit PR's of 3.30m. Seth Cartwright earned the final points for Campbellsville in the shot put. Cartwright had his best throw come on his fourth throw of the afternoon of 13.53m. He was .25 behind a 3rd-place All-American position.

Kilan Macklin was named Field Athlete of the Meet for his performance across the long jump, triple jump, and high jump. The coaching staff of Alexia Dehaven-Boyd, Taylor Grove, Corbin Harris, Anthony Thompson, and head Coach Mark Miller earned the men's coaching staff of the year award.

Campbellsville will return to the track on Friday, February 17th, when they compete in the Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships in Louisville, KY.
