Campbellsville comes up empty handed in Georgia

LAKE POINT, Ga. - Tiger baseball matched up with Webber International and Point Park during their second day in the peach state.

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 0, Webber International 13

Both pitchers started out firing to begin the contest. Ryan McFarland struck out the first two batters before letting one aboard via the walk. He wouldn't waste any time in retiring the side with another punchout. The Warriors sat down the Campbellsville order on strikes.

The next time at the plate was productive for Webber. The Warriors plated four runs on four hits and force two defensive errors on the Tigers. Grant McQueary reached with two outs but did not make it any farther.

Webber International pushed across another insurance run after a wild pitch. PJ Ledsma entered in relief and close out the inning. McFarland went 2.2 innings, giving up five hits, five runs, and striking out six. Jorge Gonzalez picked up the first hit with two outs in the bottom of the third. He tried to put pressure on but was thrown out at second.

The fourth frame did not affect the score, even with CU picking up two hits. Each team recorded a hit in the third, and both were left aboard. The Warriors continued to get hot at the dish. Zion Payne entered, and they walked away with four more runs on two hits. The Tigers still struggled at the plate, going down in order.

Number four was wild for Webber. They added another four spot in the 7th on two hits. Campbellsville wouldn't muster any runs, and the run rule came into play.

Chad McCann, Henry Wright, McQueary, and Gonzalez each had a hit in the contest.

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 8, Point Park 9

Campbellsville was the visiting team on the scoreboard again. Jacob Balsley got the offense going with a leadoff single into right field. Samio Uze got hit by a pitch, and the Tigers had two on and nobody out. The Tigers tried to put the hit-n-run in play, but Balsley got thrown out at third. CU stranded two on the bases. Point Park would follow suit with two ducks on the pond, but Kacey Cheek worked his way out of the jam.

In the next frame, Campbellsville couldn't impact the score. Point Park capitalized and put a crooked number on the scoreboard. Cheek found himself in a jam after three free bases were issued. A triple and single later, Point Park took the 4-0 lead.

CU tried to fight back with their first hitter reaching base. The Pioneers flashed the leather, turning a 4-6-3 double play and halting the potential buildup. Josiah Clark reached first base but wouldn't advance any farther. Point Park matched the energy but couldn't add any runs.

Campbellsville had a major two-out rally in the fifth and took their first lead of the game. With Banta on third, Basley on second, and Uze on first, McCann watched ball four and pick up an RBI. Wright roped a drive into left field, bringing in two runs. Gonzalez singled to the shortstop and bring home McCann. McQueary would load the bases again with a free trip to first. Jacob White put the ball in play and moved everyone up 90 feet. The following sequence was a wild pitch that scored two runs. The Tigers scored seven runs on two hits, while Point Park had three errors defensively.

With Campbellsville having their first lead of the game, the Pioneers were quick to put out the flame. At the plate, they scored five runs on four hits. This inning alone saw 12 runs, six hits, and four errors. It also took over an hour to complete.

After the firework show was over, the sixth was smooth for both teams. Campbellsville was down their final out but wouldn't go down quietly. McQueary made another etch in the score with a double to right field. He represented the tying run, and the game ended with him there.

Balsley, Wright, Gonzalez and McQueary made up the four Campbellsville hits. Wright also drove in two runs leading the clubhouse.

The Tigers finally land at HIG field on Tuesday. They host Union College at 2 p.m. ET for their home opener.
