GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Campbellsville was swept by the #7 Georgetown Tigers Tuesday afternoon. The hitting percentage difference proved too much for Campbellsville.
At the beginning of the first set, Campbellsville started with errors and could not connect their defense with their offense. The CU Tigers called a timeout at 7-13 to change the match's direction. Directly out of the break,
JoVeaun Banks added a solo block to the statistic line with the first block of the set and match. The CU Tigers took another timeout at 16-23 as the CU Tigers were hitting 0.000 compared to the 0.238 Georgetown was hitting. Campbellsville lost the frame 25-18.
Jakob Zum Kolk opened the second set with a needed kill to put the Tigers ahead. The Georgetown Tigers went on a six-point run in response to the play. Campbellsville struggled to connect setters with hitters, resulting in Georgetown going on the streak. Campbellsville could not slow Georgetown down as the GC Tigers had a 0.324 hitting percentage against their -0.083. Later in the set,
Fernand Morales shifted the Tiger's momentum as he put the first ace on the board, but it wasn't enough as the Tigers fell 25-16 in the second set.
The Tigers started the strongest in the third set, taking a 2-0 lead over Georgetown. As the set progressed, the attacking errors plagued the success of Campbellsville. Georgetown also had points of establishing themselves in the third set, which resulted in the two teams going back and forth for some time. Again, attacking errors proceeded to pile up along with defensive communication issues as well. Zum Kolk attempted to pull the Tigers out of their hole with a kill; however, Georgetown bounced back immediately. Campbellsville lost the last game 25-19.
The Campbellsville Tigers only hit a non-negative number in the last set at 0.000. Attacking errors and defensive struggles were major causes of the loss. Banks led the team with a 0.750 hitting percentage with three kills and no errors. The team had six total blocks and 21 digs.
The Tigers play another conference match next on Saturday, February 25th at the University of Rio Grande in Rio Grande, Ohio at 7 p.m. ET.
