CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tiger Baseball team took on the Eagles at HIG Field Tuesday afternoon. Campbellsville continued their win streak as they defeated Midway in a landslide, 24-5.
Zack Bromstead stood on the mound for the Tigers. Bromstead eliminated the first three batters with a fly out, strike out, and then a ground out. Campbellsville attempted to scratch back with a hit from
Chad McCann, but nothing came from it before the inning closed out.
Midway jumped out on the Tigers in the second inning. An Eagle batter reached first base on a fielding error. Midway laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners around the bases. A single up the middle solidified a run for the Eagles to gain the lead. Campbellsville's McCann grabbed the next two outs to end the top of the inning.
Mael Zan led off for the Tigers at the plate. Zan sent a ball flying over left-center field to trot the bases. Campbellsville swiftly picked up three outs to end their time at the plate.
Mason Lee came into the contest for Bromstead. Lee Finalized the top of the inning to lead Campbellsville to offense. The Tigers racked up runs in the bottom of the third inning to place the Eagles at a lengthy deficit.
Noah Amenta and McCann both singled to find themselves on the bases. The bases loaded up after
Jorge Gonzalez walked to first after being hit by pitch. Zan fashioned two more RBIs as he doubled down the left-field line.
Grant McQueary followed suit as his single scored J. Gonzalez, and
Kale Seitz's sacrifice fly scored Zan. After the Eagles collected their second out,
Henry Wright batted in McQueary with a single through the left side.
Campbellsville continued to score runs when they appeared at the plate. Midway walked two batters, and Sietz reached first on a fielder's choice. When Logan verble stepped up to the plate, the third baseman for the Eagles made an error on the play. Two runs came across as a result, and the Tigers led 8-1.
Zion Payne came into the game to relieve Lee on the mound. Campbellsville allowed no runs and gave up no hits. The Eagles struggled on the mound, walking the Tigers into loaded bases. As
Josh Napier pinched hit for McQueary, Napier amassed an RBI as the Midway pitcher tallied another walk. Sietz poised another single to push around the runners and composed another RBI. Verble's sacrifice fly scored Zan, adding the eleventh Tigers run.
Another pitching change occurred for Campbellsville as
Luis Lopez entered the game. Midway put two runs up on the board after acquiring three hits. In the bottom half of the inning, Wright and Amenta singled to the left side of the field.
Josiah Clark collected a double to bring both of those Tigers across. The Eagles continued to struggle on the mound as the Eagles walked
Jacob White, Verble, and Gonzalez. These at-bats counted as RBIs for the Tigers. A couple more RBIs aided Campbellsville as the Midway pitcher walked another batter and catcher's interference. The Tigers scored five more to widen the lead 24-3.
Three Campbellsville batters finalized a 1.000 in the batter's box. McQueary's two at-bats resulted in two hits and one RBI. Napier's one at-bat gained him a three-run RBI, while White's one at-bat tallied him a two-run RBI. Campbellsville amassed 21 RBIs, whereas Midway mustered together four.
Campbellsville will hit the road again as they head to the University of the Cumberlands. The Tigers begin the series on Friday, March 3rd, with the first contest starting at 3 p.m. ET.
