WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Tigers traveled to face the #15 University of the Cumberlands Saturday afternoon. Campbellsville struggled to get hits as they fell to the Patriots, 11-4.
Starting the game, the Tigers looked to get their bats going with
Henry Wright as the lead off. Wright struck out swinging, but shortly after, Noah Armenta hit a double to right field. Amenta then reached a scoring position after
Chad McCann hit a sacrifice fly. No runs were scored and Amenta was left on base.
Zane Morrison started the bottom of the first inning on the mound for the Tigers. The leadoff batter for the Patriots scored the first run of the game after hitting a homerun. Campbellsville got three quick outs and the Patriots stranded one runner.
The Tigers started the second frame going three up, three down. The Patriots collected more hits and managed to score another run. As the run was scored, there were two outs on the board, but the Patriots still had others in scoring positions. UC took the three-run lead as they sent one more home before the third out came.
Grant McQueary led off the Tigers in the top of the third inning and he reached first on an error. He then advanced to third after
Lucas Banta doubled to right field. Campbellsville then scored their first run after Amenta hit a sacrifice fly that brought McQueary across home plate. The third out came after that play and the Tigers looked to make a defensive stop. Rounding out the third inning the Tigers saw three up, three down.
Starting the fourth frame,
Jorge Gonzalez homered to right center. Following him,
Josiah Clark reached first on another Patriot error and then stole second base. McQueary then hit an RBI single that brought Clark home and the Tigers tied up the game. Campbellsville's defense remained strong in the bottom of the fourth as they saw three up, three down to take it to the fifth inning. Wright got the bats going again the Tigers as he singled up the middle. Shortly after, he was caught stealing second and was thrown out. The Patriots ended up scoring two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead once again.
In the top of the sixth inning, Gonzalez hit another homerun to right center and brought Campbellsville back within one. Following him, Clark singled to right field but was thrown out at second. In the bottom of the sixth, Garrett Moloney came to the mound for Morrison. UC ended the sixth inning scoring four runs to take a 9-4 lead. The Tigers were unable to cut into the Patriot lead as they went three up, three down. Rounding out the seventh inning,
Joseph Ranford came in to pitch for the Tigers and the Patriots left one on base and saw no runs. To start the eighth inning, Campbellsville was unsuccessful at the plate and saw no runs. In the bottom of the eighth frame, the Patriots added two more runs and took a six-run lead. Starting the final inning of the game, the Tigers went three up, three down and that ended the game.
Campbellsville went 2-5 (.400) with runners in scoring positions compared to UC going 5-9 (.556). The Patriots doubled the number of hits that the Tigers totaled as the Patriots got 14 and the Tigers only seven hits.

th as they face the Patriots again in Williamsburg.
