CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers, hot off a three-game win streak, hosted conference foe Wilberforce Friday for the first of their planned three-game series. Campbellsville handled their business and ended things, 19-3.
Going into the contest,
Henry Wright led the team with 21 hits.
Noah Amenta was first for the team in batting average with .317. The Tigers had five batters over .300: Amenta,
Kale Seitz (.310),
Henry Wright (.304),
Grant McQueary (.304), and
Chad McCann (.300).
Jorge Gonzalez, the Tigers' homerun leader, wasted little time adding to his season total with a bomb over the left-field fence. Campbellsville was facing a two-run deficit after a throwing error let two Bulldogs cross home plate, so the dinger was crucial to establishing momentum. The Tigers did just that with four total runs, highlighted by the Gonzalez homerun and a Wright two-RBI single.
In the second inning,
Mael Zan joined his teammate in the homer category when he nuked a ball and sent in himself and McCann. Nearing their third out, Seitz hit an infield single that took their run total up to seven.
The Tigers had allowed four Bulldog hits through Wilberforce's three chances at-bat. In Campbellsville's opportunity, they had a run go across before bases were loaded after Wright's four-pitch walk. Seitz, McQueary, Gonzalez, and Wright singles, as well as
Lucas Banta and McCann triples, brought the Tigers' to a 17-2 advantage after the third frame.
The first three up, three down half inning occurred in the Bulldogs' share of the fifth. In the Tigers' time,
Josh Napier logged his first career homerun for two RBI's. The rest of the way Campbellsville never relented control and won, 19-3.
The Tigers allowed just six hits in the contest and notched 15 of their own.
Zane Morrison had his Tiger-high k's with nine strikeouts. Campbellsville posted a .669 strike percentage along with .441 hitting.
The Tigers will be back in action Saturday starting at noon for games two and three against the Bulldogs.
