Tigers take close sweep over Eagles

MIDWAY, Ky. – Campbellsville bested the Midway Eagles in a three-set battle Tuesday night.

Tigers wanted to keep their momentum moving in their conference play as they traveled to Midway to take on the Eagles. The Tigers were 2-2 in the conference before tonight's match, and the Eagles were 0-6. Both teams were looking for a win to help propel them toward the postseason. Despite the record differences, both teams were producing very similar attacking numbers: Campbellsville with 10.82 kills per set and Midway with 10.35 kills per set.

The Tigers put away the first set with 13 kills as a team. Campbellsville hit an impressive .375 in comparison to Midway's .318. Karil Adeh led the squad with six kills in the first frame. Adeh also finished the set with a service ace for the last point.

The second set opened with Midway finding their groove early on. Mason McKinney put one away in the ten-foot line to put the Tigers back on track. Following the kill, setter Diego Betancourt and middle McKinney had their own block party, stifling Midway. Later in the set, it was an ongoing battle of who could assert their dominance most convincingly. Midway broke through and took the lead 24-23, which forced a Tiger timeout. The Tigers finished the set with conviction and won 32-30. Denzel Madrigal had seven kills and no errors after the first two frames, resulting in his .583 hitting percentage.

Campbellsville started the third with a tug-of-war match regarding who would take the lead. Adeh posted back-to-back aces to assert the Tiger's control over the Eagles. Campbellsville took advantage of Midway's errors and went on a 3-0 run, forcing an Eagle timeout. The set continued to be contested, which was expected as both teams had been producing very similar statistics throughout the year. Along with kills per set, the Tigers and Eagles passed similarly, averaging around nine digs per set. Still, the Tigers took the third set 25-23, which resulted in a sweep and added to their conference play, making Campbellsville's record now 3-2 in the MSC.

Next, the Tigers will take on another conference match against the Cumberland Phoenix in Lebanon, Tennessee at 6 p.m. ET.
