CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers hosted #17 Georgetown College for a doubleheader Thursday afternoon, but were the away team on the scoreboard. Campbellsville won both games, shutting out Georgetown in the first game and sending in nine runs in the second.
Game One: Campbellsville 2, Georgetown 0
For the first three innings of the game, both teams struggled batting. Through the three innings, Georgetown and Campbellsville went three up, three down. In the top of the second and third frames, the Tigers totaled two hits.
Campbellsville scored their two runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Noah Amenta started Tiger Baseball off with a single up the middle and crossed home plate after
Mael Zan grounded out to shortstop. The next to score was
Chad McCann as he came home on a wild pitch. To close out that inning, Campbellsville had two hits, two runs, and left two on base.
Georgetown went scoreless through the seven innings but totaled four hits. Campbellsville won with the two runs seen in the fourth frame and ended with five hits.
Zane Morrison was the lone pitcher for Campbellsville getting the win with two strikeouts and only one walk.
GAME TWO: Campbellsville 9, Georgetown 6
Tiger Baseball started the first inning going three up, three down. Georgetown scored five of their six runs in the bottom of the first inning leaving Campbellsville to catch up to the five-run lead. Those five matched the number of hits that Georgetown had.
The Tigers scored their first two runs in the top of the fourth.
Jorge Gonzalez crossed home plate off an RBI from
Jacob White and a Georgetown error. White was the next to come home after Zan singled to right field. In the next inning, Campbellsville tallied two more runs.
Jacob Balsley scored the third after Gonzalez reached first from a fielder's choice.
Miguel Silfa was the fourth Tiger to cross home plate after Amenta singled to right field.
Georgetown sent home their final run in the bottom of the eighth frame giving them a two-run lead over the Tigers going into the last inning. Campbellsville scored five runs in the top of the ninth, granting them the sweep over Georgetown. Alex Casteneda, Silfa, Gonzalez, White, and McCann all went to home plate in their share of that last frame. The Tigers sealed their win after getting three quick outs in the bottom of the ninth.
Both teams totaled 11 hits, but Campbellsville proved more successful in turning those hits into runs. Tiger Baseball had three pitchers on the mound with
Mason Lee getting the win.
Ryan McFarland pitched 0.2 innings,
Garrett Maloney pitched 6.1 innings, and Lee pitched two. Together they faced 42 batters.
Campbellsville will be back in action Saturday, March 18
th to finish up the three-game series with Georgetown. The game will be in Campbellsville with the first pitch time to be announced.
