CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Tigers hosted Rio Grande's RedStorm for Saturday's home game in the regular season finale. Campbellsville took the win over Rio Grande 3-0 and ensured they would meet the team at the Mid-South Conference Tournament.
The first set opened with a kill from the RedStorm.
Karil Adeh followed with the first kill for the Tigers. Campbellsville took advantage of Rio Grande's errors and took the lead on the scoreboard.
Diego Betancourt kept on passing the ball around the team, assisting on multiple kills from multiple sources. Both teams remained close to each other on the scoreboard, with only a couple points within each other as the Tigers held onto the lead. The Tigers won the first frame 25-20.
The second set started with a kill by Adeh. Rio Grande sought to capitalize on Campbellsville's errors, but they themselves began to post errors to the Tigers' advantage.
Mason McKinney and
JoVeaun Banks followed with kills of their own, boosting Campbellsville' score. Both teams kept on exchanging the lead back and forth, tying the scoreboard on a few occasions. The Tigers closed the second set with a win, 25-20.
In the starting minutes of the third frame, Campbellsville kept the lead with no points from Rio Grande. Even though the RedStorm began to score, the Tigers kept the cushion for the rest of the match. Throughout the set, assists from Betancourt and Zum Kolk propelled the Tigers forward, along with kills from
Jannick Bachman, Adeh, and
Reza Tahnasebi. The Tigers won the third set over the RedStorm 25-17.
Campbellsville finished the match with a hitting percentage of .253, four aces, and four blocks, compared to Rio Grande's .103 hitting percentage, one ace, and six blocks. Adeh led the team with 11 kills,
Fernand Morales with 11 digs, and Betancourt with 29 assists.
The #4 Tigers will be back in action in the postseason taking on the #5 Rio Grande RedStorm at Ephram White Gymnasium in Bowling Green, Kentucky on Friday March 31st at 10 a.m. ET. The winner would then go on to face Georgetown at Bowling Green High School later that day at 6 p.m. ET.
