NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Tigers' late-inning heroics pushed them ahead on the scoreboard after seven innings, winning over IU Southeast 9-8.
Jorge Gonzalez started the offense with a triple to right field in the first inning, bringing home
Chad McCann for the game's first run. The Grenadiers fired back strong with four runs in the bottom of the first.
CU would not bring across any runs in the next couple of innings, but the offense was produced with
Jacob White and
Noah Amenta singling in the top of the second. IU Southeast scored a run in their share of the fourth, followed by
Lorenzo Gonzalez scoring
Jorge Gonzalez in the top of the sixth.
At the top of the eighth inning,
Miguel Silfa tripled to right center, collecting one RBI, and
Logan Verble singled through the left side collecting two RBIs. The remainder of Campbellsville's share of the eighth was highlighted by runs from Verble, Silfa, Gonzalez,
Grant McQueary,
Alex Castaneda, and
Jack Marlin. The Tigers would score seven runs on three hits.
Indiana Southeast could not recuperate, and Campbellsville completed the come-from-behind victory 9-8. Verble led the team with two runs batted in. The Tigers had a .662 strike percentage on the mound and eight hits offensively. The Grenadiers ended with a .551 strike percentage and 13 hits.
Campbellsville Baseball will return on Friday, April 21st, at 3:00 p.m. ET. The Tigers will square off with Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee.
