CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers took to the turf at Finley Stadium Saturday night with their season-opener against the UC-Clermont Cougars. From the first kick on, the Tigers handled business and defeated the Cougars, 4-0.
Campbellsville kept the pressure on UC-Clermont from the jump. The Tigers recorded three shots before finding paydirt. Mark Horn raced up the left side for about 60 yards and crossed the ball over to Nathan Schmidli deep in the box on the opposite side for the first score of the contest. In the 30th minute, Keenan Prince was fouled near the goal, setting him up for a penalty kick. However, the opposing goalkeeper guessed correctly and snagged Prince's attempt from going in. A testament to their offensive control, after 45 minutes, the Tigers had 12 shots to the Cougars' two.
In the second half, the offensive pressure didn't relent from the Tigers. Campbellsville took four more shots before getting their second goal of the match from Tomas Rosa's 30-yard laser in the 62nd minute. Even when the Tigers began to rotate more and more of the lineup, they held a firm grip on the match. Before it was all said and done, Felix Baubeng added a penalty kick goal to the tally in the 85th after a handball in the box. For the nightcap, Malte Eckman sent a ball into the net with just a little under two minutes before the final buzzer. The match ended 4-0 for Campbellsville.
The Tigers ended things with 13 shots on goal compared to just one for the Cougars. 27 total shots for Campbellsville were more than 20 over UC-Clermont's three.
The Tigers will take on the Alice Lloyd Eagles next. That match will be Wednesday, August 23rd at 6 p.m. ET.
