Penalty kicks lift Tigers over Mighty Oaks

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Two penalty kicks sent Campbellsville capturing the win at home over the Oakland City Mighty Oaks Friday night. With the victory, the Tigers have not lost a match since August 29th.

Both squads opened the night rather tentative with the first shot on goal coming from Keenan Prince in the 25th minute. Throughout the first half, the two teams may have been selective with their shots but not with their defensive and contact. The Tigers tried to get the offense going towards the end of the first half with a shot on goal from Zeezo Cassim, but nothing manifested.

At the half, the teams were locked at zeroes. The start of the second interval was very similar to the first as physical defense reigned. One of the Mighty Oaks' fouls resulted in a penalty kick for the Tigers in the 61st minute taken by Felix Baubeng and resulted in a goal for Campbellsville. That was the freshman Baubeng's team-leading sixth goal on the short season. The second-leading scorer on the team, Cassim (3), followed up the first penalty with one of his own in the 83rd minute. The Tigers finished the match strong offensively with ten total shots and four shots on goal in their 2-0 triumph.

For their next contest, the Tigers are away as they take on Mount Vernon Nazrene September 19th at 7 p.m. ET.
