COLUMBIA, Ky. – On Tuesday night, our Campbellsville Tigers took the road to battle the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders. Despite losing the second set, the Tigers came home with a win, 3-1.
The first set started with an attack error from the Tigers in favor of the Blue Raiders, giving them an early advantage. However, Campbellsville quickly retaliated with three back-to-back kills by Cierra Merrick, Molly Shannon, and Morgan Furness. After holding the lead over Lindsey Wilson, the game came to a tie at seven, but the Tigers swiftly regained the lead. Taylor Thacker agilely assisted her teammates, such as Shannon and Hannah McGill, collecting more and more kills for the Tigers. The Tigers won the first set, 25-17.
The second set began with a service ace from Camryn Rich, earning the Tigers an early lead on the frame. As the game continued to develop, both teams remained within a couple of points of each other, continuously tying the scoreboard. Two service aces from the Blue Raiders broke the tie, leaving Campbellsville on the trailing end of the score. Despite the Tigers' solid offensive efforts, Lindsey Wilson won at the end of the second set.
The third frame was set in motion with a kill by Merrick. With two attack errors from Lindsey Wilson, the Tigers held the lead on the scoreboard with the Blue Raiders at zero. As the third set unfolded, Campbellsville remained in the lead, with their fierce offensive attacks propelling their score forward, kill after kill. Thacker and Rich nimbly passed the ball to their teammates as the Tigers' arduous defense continued to keep steadfast control at the net. Shannon closed the third frame with a kill, bringing Campbellsville to another won set, 25-19.
The fourth set started with an attack error and a bad set from Lindsey Wilson in the Tigers' favor. The Blue Raiders quickly matched the Tigers on the scoreboard, but Campbellsville did not fall far behind, tying the score back and keeping the score by only one point apart. Lindsey Wilson gained control over the scoreboard, but the Tigers promptly regained their hold over the lead. Kills from Brooke Hager and Rich continued to widen Campbellsville's score, and the Blue Raiders ended the frame with an attack error in the Tigers' favor, bringing Campbellsville to a win over Lindsey Wilson, 25-19.
Campbellsville finished the match with a hitting percentage of .204, seven aces, and 6.0 blocks, compared to Lindsey Wilson's .118 hitting percentage, eight aces, and 8.0 blocks. Hager led the team with 17 kills and Rich with 22 digs and 44 assists.
The Tigers will be back in action, taking the road to Henderson, Tennessee, to go against the Freed-Hardeman University Lions on September 29th, beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
