FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – #5 Freshman
Josie Davis shined at the Robert Horton Memorial Open on Sunday, winning the 123-lb. division. The #7 Lady Tigers also sported three second-place finishes: #4
Icart Galumette in the 116-lb. bracket, #10 Gabriella Perez with the 136-pounders, and #2
Emma Walker at 143-lbs.
In the lightest weight class,
Kiley McNerney finished fourth, going 2-2.
For the 109-lb. bracket,
Gabrielle Medeiros secured third place, rallying in the consolation bracket with two straight pinfall wins.
The aforementioned Galumette lost in the finals of her bracket to the NCAA's #2 Karissa Turnwall out of Emmanuel College following her three victories.
Davis ran roughshod against her competition, getting two pins (including in the deciding bout) and a technical fall in her three matches.
The 130-lb. division saw
Olivia Messerly win in her opening round before dropping to the NCAA's #7 Cassia Zammit (wrestling for the second time this season after Zammit had her hand raised in their first head-to-head). Then, Messerly rallied in the blood rounds, winning three-in-a-row before going down in the match for third place.
Sofia Poblano and Gabriella Perez met up in the 136-lb. bracket where Perez was the winner en route to her second-place finish. In the finals, Perez tied with Emmanuel College's Gianna Anaya, forcing extra time where she was defeated.
The NCAA's #5 143-pounder Maddie Kubicki bested Walker in the finals of their bracket following Walker's defeat of her other two opponents with sub-1:00 pins.
Sierra Chavez was 1-1 in the 155-lb. bracket.
Mariah Gardner wrestled with the 170-pounders but was unable to pick up a win.
Lexiana Garcia lost her opening bout, then took two forfeits in the consolation rounds before getting knocked out of contention with her fellow 191-lb. wrestlers.
Next, The Lady Tigers will head to Sylvania, Ohio to hit the mat against (RV) Lourdes.
