CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The #3 Lady Tigers hosted the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders on Thursday night. Campbellsville's 25-assist team plays propelled them to victory, 78-54.
In the game's opening seconds, both teams exchanged buckets, with the Lady Tigers in the lead at the start of the first quarter. Lindsey Wilson stole the lead from the three-point line, but Maddy Boyle quickly landed two back-to-back threes of her own and regained the lead for Campbellsville. Although Lindsey Wilson took advantage of Elizabeth Bertram's turnover, she quickly regained possession of the ball and earned another layup for the Lady Tigers. At the end of the first 10 minutes of play, Campbellsville led the game 22-13.
The second quarter started with a three-pointer exchange between the teams. Maddie Nalley came off the bench collecting her first assist, aiding Kaitlynn Wilks in another Lady Tiger layup. Halfway through the second, Courtney Pritchett landed her third three-point jumper of the contest, propelling Campbellsville forward to a 20-point advantage over the Blue Raiders. In the last few minutes before the end of the first half, Whitney Hay racked up three assists, skillfully maneuvering the ball down the court and to her teammates, resulting in bucket after bucket for the Lady Tigers. Going into the second half, Campbellsville remained in the lead, 52-28.
The Lady Tigers surpassed Lindsey Wilson in most statistical categories at the end of the first half. Most significantly, Campbellsville collected 19 assists to their seven and 16 bench points to their nine, proving their gameplay and bench rotation superior to the Blue Raiders.
Bailey Pedigo opened the second half with her first three-pointer of the night. Boyle and Lee increased the Lady Tigers' advantage, going perfect at the free-throw line. Lindsey Wilson's attempt to retaliate was blocked by Tyra Flowers blocking their trials at the basket. Both teams heightened their defense, preventing each other from scoring. Kayla Luebbe and Hay got a couple of layups in, breaking the scoring pause on the game. With less than 10 seconds left in the third quarter, the Blue Raiders landed a three-pointer to decrease their deficit on the scoreboard. Going into the last quarter, Campbellsville held a 35-point advantage, 72-37.
Within the first couple of minutes of the last quarter, Lindsey Wilson collected two baskets in their favor. Sarah Sutton was first to score for the Lady Tigers with a three-point bucket, aided by Bree Gowdy's first assist of the contest. The Blue Raiders boosted their offense, racking up basket after basket, but not enough to come close to Campbellsville's lead. Each team collected a handful of rebounds in the following minutes of the quarter; however, none resulted in any baskets. The Blue Raiders interrupted the scoring halt with a layup with less than two minutes left on the clock. The Lady Tigers closed the match with a victory, 78-54.
At the end of the contest, Campbellsville more than doubled Lindsey Wilson with 25 assists to their 12 and 23 points off turnovers to their 11. Four Lady Tigers reached double digits during tonight's match-up: Boyle with 14 points, Luebbe with 13, Pritchett with 11, and Wilks with 10.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action, traveling to Georgetown, Kentucky, to battle the Georgetown College Tigers on Thursday, February 1st, beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET.
