FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Campbellsville Lady Tigers traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana, to compete at the Warrior Duals on Friday and the Warrior Open on Saturday. The Lady Tigers won over Indiana Tech, Brewton-Parker College, Rochester University, and St. Andrews University. Campbellsville University had the opportunity to wrestle the University of Iowa, an emerging D1 women's program, in the day's final match.
The Lady Tigers took down Indiana Tech in the first round, winning six of their ten matches. ICart Galumette, Josie Davis, and Olivia Messerly put the first points on the board for Campbellsville after earning three back-to-back technical falls. At 136 lbs., Gaby Perez earned a fall. Emma Walker won by technical fall, 16-6, and Kendra Thompson earned a pin. The dual's final score ended in the Lady Tigers' favor, 27-17.
In the second round, Campbellsville beat Brewton-Parker College 46-1. Riley Banyas started with a tight 7-6 decision win over Elora Waterman. At 109 lbs. and 116 lbs., Gabrielle Medeiros and Galumette earned a first-period fall. At 130 lbs., O. Messerly earned a pin in just over a minute. Perez earned a technical fall in the 136 lbs. match. Campbellsville was able to add many team points to their side of the scoreboard on forfeits: 123 lbs., 143 lbs., 155 lbs., 170 lbs., and 191 lbs.
To continue the day, the Lady Tigers faced off Rochester University, resulting in an uncontested 48-0 win. At 123 lbs., Davis earned a technical fall in just 23 seconds. At 130 lbs. and 143 lbs., O. Messerly and Walker earned quick pins. At 155 lbs., Thompson won by technical fall. Rochester forfeited the remainder of the matches.
Campbellsville wrestled St. Andrews University, but all but two matches were forfeits. At 116 lbs., Galumette had a 15-second pin. Addison Messerly also earned a pin at 136 lbs. The final score of the dual was 50-0 in favor of the Lady Tigers.
In the final dual against the University of Iowa, the Lady Tigers battled hard but came up short. O. Messerly had a close 9-6 loss against Emily Frost, and Perez lost 4-0 to Emmily Patneaud. The final team score ended in favor of the Hawkeyes, 42-2.
The following day, Campbellsville competed at the Warrior Open, leaving with four medalists. Galumette earned a second-place finish at 116 lbs., Walker took third place at 143 lbs., Davis took fourth at 123 lbs., and O. Messerly finished in sixth place at 130 lbs.
Tune in as the Lady Tigers hit the road to Des Moines, Iowa, to compete at the Grandview Open on Saturday, February 3rd. Following this event, Campbellsville will take on the University of the Cumberlands on Wednesday, February 7th, and Life University on Friday, February 16th.
