LEBANON, Tenn. – The Tigers traveled to Lebanon, Tennessee, for a Thursday evening match-up against the Cumberland University Phoenix. Campbellsville swept the Phoenix, extending their winning streak to six consecutive matches.
Campbellsville took an early advantage at the beginning of the frame, with five points ahead. Molly Shannon connected with Jana Krstic for multiple points, and Cierra Merrick contributed kills and assists, allowing Campbellsville to keep their lead. Despite the Phoenix's efforts to rally back, Campbellsville took the first set from Cumberland, 25-16.
The Phoenix opened the second set. The Tigers consistently found openings in the Phoenix defense, scoring seven consecutive points unanswered. Despite Phoenix's setbacks, the Tigers kept surpassing Cumberland. The Phoenix started falling behind as the game continued, and the Tigers dominated the second set, 25-12.
As in the previous set, Cumberland scored the first kill. The Tigers followed with an early lead. The Phoenix rallied to bounce back, but the Tigers' defense prevented them from overtaking the lead, which was not enough. Elif Akcivi added several service aces. The Tigers kept their focus and took advantage of Cumberland's mistakes; Campbellsville kept control throughout the frame and secured a solid victory against Cumberland, 25-17.
The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday, October 8th. Campbellsville will face the University of the Cumberlands Patriots in Williamsburg, Kentucky. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
