Tigers secure victory over Dragons in 51-point margin, 109-58

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.- The Campbellsville Tigers traveled to Williamsburg, Kentucky, on Thursday night for their first contest in the University of the Cumberlands Classic. The Tigers faced the Virginia University of Lynchburg Dragons. Campbellsville's defense and bench created havoc for the Dragons, allowing the Tigers to capitalize on the Dragons and move to 5-1 on the season.

Opening the game, the Dragons were on the scoreboard first, but the Tigers responded with a 10-0 run, leaving the Dragons scoreless for almost three and a half minutes. However, missed opportunities on the offensive end led to a Dragon run and lead. The Tigers quickly clawed their way back on top with a triple from Keaston Brown. Though the Dragons seemed not to go away, three consecutive scores from Cobe Penny, Brown, and Javaughn Smith gave Campbellsville the needed edge, and they never looked back. With Brown sharing the wealth and Smith catching fire, the Tigers ended on a 14-3 run to head into halftime winning, 45-29.

Beginning the last half, Dalton Kramer found Jay Milburn who finished through the contact and earned a three-point play at the charity stripe. Brown assisted a Marcellus Vail triple to give Campbellsville a 24-point lead, and the Tigers only built from there. Campbellsville sped up the Dragons, resulting in more scoring opportunities for the Tigers. Capitalizing on the hurried Dragons, Kramer and Smith hit triples on back-to-back offensive trips. In the final ten minutes of the game, Campbellsville went on a 33-15 run to give the Tigers a 51-point advantage. Campbellsville went on to win, 109-58.

Campbellsville is back in action on Friday, November 15th, facing the Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET.

  • Vail paced the Tigers with a 16-point performance, securing a career-high. Milburn grabbed ten points and ten boards, securing his fourth double-double, and Brown had a game-high nine assists.
  • Campbellsville bested the Dragons in every statistical category, but the most impressive stat came from the bench. The Tigers had 52 bench points compared to the Dragons' eight.
  • Tonight's victory marked the 145th win in the Brent Vernon era and the Tigers' best start since 2017-18. It also pushed Campbellsville to four straight wins over the Dragons and the most significant margin of victory at 51 points.
