MCKENZIE, Tenn. — The #4 Lady Tigers took the road to battle the (RV) Milligan University Buffaloes in the Bethel College Classic on Saturday. Capitalizing on
Lauren Lee's career-high point total and from their short-range shots with more than double points in the paint, Campbellsville took the victory, 88-70.
The Lady Tigers took an early lead over the Buffaloes from the opening minutes of the game, with consistent scoring in the paint by
Whitney Hay and
Lauren Lee. Milligan retaliated, but Campbellsville continued to dominate the quarter with back-to-back jumpers from Hay.
Dea Bradley came off the bench with an avid layup. The Lady Tigers faced multiple opportunities at the charity stripe, amplifying their lead at the end of the first quarter, 27-18.
Bradley opened the second quarter with a jumper in the paint. The Buffaloes attempted to close the gap on the scoreboard from beyond the arch.
Tyra Flowers' aggressive rebounding maintained Campbellsville's upper hand on the game, preventing Milligan from coming close to their lead on the game. The Buffaloes struggled to catch up during their scoring opportunities, ending the half with the Lady Tigers firmly holding the lead, 49-36.
Hay and Lee opened the second half, continuing to extend Campbellsville's lead layup after layup. Milligan responded with three-pointers and free-throws, coming within four points for the Lady Tigers' advantage.
Talynne Shearer's unyielding inside play widened Campbellsville's lead on the scoreboard, reclaiming control on the court. Lee was hot, repeatedly taking advantage of the Buffaloes subpar interior defense. With mighty defensive rebounds and short-range shots, the Lady Tigers went into the final quarter, 63-54.
From the early stages of the fourth quarter, Campbellsville continued to increase their lead over Milligan. The Lady Tigers pushed their advantage to double digits over the Buffaloes. Although Milligan faced a few opportunities at the charity stripe and from beyond the arch, Hay and Lee's defense kept the Buffaloes at bay. Milligan came within 16 points of Campbellsville with only two minutes remaining on the clock. The Lady Tigers secured the game with a win, 88-70.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action hosting the Louisiana State University Pilots on Friday, November 8th, beginning at 5 p.m. ET.
- Campbellsville surpassed Milligan in a few statistical categories: points off turnovers (21-10), points in the paint (54-22), and fast-break points (15-9).
