Lady Tigers ground Pilots, 86-59

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The #4 Lady Tigers hosted the #14 Louisiana State University Shreveport Pilots on Friday night for their first contest of two in the Campbellsville Classic. With double the amount of made baskets from beyond the arc, Campbellsville took their first ranked victory of the season, 86-59.

Although the Pilots were first on the scoreboard with the first jumper of the game, the Lady Tigers retaliated, gaining an early lead from the opening stages of the first quarter. Paige Serafini's back-to-back three-point buckets propelled Campbellsville forward in their advantage, widening LSU Shreveport's deficit. The Lady Tigers strong team play preserved their upper hand, aiding each other bucket after bucket. Both teams strongly capitalized off short-range shots as the first ten minutes of the game continued to unfold. Campbellsville benefited from the Pilots' turnovers, closing the first quarter, 25-15.

Lauren Lee's steals from the opening of the second quarter significantly aided the Lady Tigers in racking up bucket after bucket. Serafini's performance from deep remained one of Campbellsville's biggest strengths as the contest progressed. Talynne Shearer then came off the bench with her own ferocious three-point basket. Dea Bradley followed, coming into the game with repeated steals. LSU Shreveport attempted to retaliate, scoring from past the arch, but it was not enough to catch up with the Lady Tigers as Campbellsville held on to the lead at the end of the first half, 49-35.

The opening minutes of the third quarter saw limited scoring, as both teams' defenses stood strong, preventing the other from collecting more than a couple baskets. With a jumper by Lee, the Lady Tigers increased their advantage to 20 points over the Pilots. Both teams' turnovers brought the quarter back to a scoring halt, neither team able to break through to connect at the basket.

Much like the third quarter, both teams' defensive play in the final ten minutes of play was powerful, stopping each other from scoring. Halfway through the final quarter, Campbellsville had only managed to score twice in the paint with two layups by Whitney Hay and Hallie Allen, and with two opportunities at the charity stripe by Lee. Bradley scored another avid jumper followed by another from Bella Stiles with less than two minutes remaining on the clock. The Lady Tigers only allowed the Pilots to score thrice from the field and with four opportunities at the free-throw line throughout the last ten minutes of play. Campbellsville closed the game with a win, 86-59.

To conclude their play in the Campbellsville Classic, the Lady Tigers will be back in action hosting the Brenton-Parker College Barons Saturday, November 9th beginning at 4 p.m. ET.
