Tigers shutout Eagles to advance to NCCAA National Championship, 3-0

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.- The Tigers hosted the Asbury University Eagles on Friday for the NCCAA Tournament Mid-East Regional Qualifiers. Campbellsville limited Asbury scoreless, taking the win, 3-0.

Five minutes into the first half, Makwe Nkoana scored the first goal of the night with an avid assist by Gustav Oskarsson. Both teams elevated their defenses in the development of the game, preventing each other from scoring. Diego Chainho and Nicolo Lanari collected shots for the Tigers, attempting to amplify their advantage. Malte Schou's saves continued to limit the Eagles scoreless. At the end of the first half, Campbellsville led the game, 1-0.

Only ten minutes into the second half, Jarred Hendricks scored back-to-back goals assisted by Oskarsson and Jamie Bird. The Tigers' defense did not allow Asbury to make it past midfield, asserting their dominance on the field and setting the pace for the remainder of the match. Mihlali Blesi, Eduardo de Filippis, and Oskarsson collected shot after shot; however, the Eagles' goalie strengthened his efforts and saved their attempts. At the end of the game, Campbellsville's aggressive defense proved too strong for Asbury to overcome, taking the victory over the Eagles, 3-0.

The Tigers will be back in action, moving on to the NCCAA Championship in Kissimmee, Florida, from December 2nd through December 7th.

  • Hendricks led the Tigers with two goals, six shots, and four shots on goal, and Oskarsson with two assists. Schou collected three saves throughout tonight's match.
  • Campbellsville surpassed Asbury in most statistical aspects of the game: assists (3-0), shots (18-4), shots on goal (10-3), and corners (11-0).
  • Tonight's game extends the Tigers' winning records to seven consecutive wins against the Eagles; Campbellsville has not lost a game against Asbury since 2012.
