LOUISVILLE, KY – Campbellsville dusted off the rust in an early season meet in Louisville on Saturday to begin the 2024-25 campaign.
CamRon Hamby made an NAIA #1 jump in the triple jump on Saturday. On his third attempt of the day, Hamby produced a mark of 15.34m winning the event and setting the school record by .40m. That mark is his personal best, he broke the 15.00m mark for the first time in his career last season.
Corey Smith II earned a top five finish in the event with a mark of 14.14m on his third attempt of the day.
Schavon Carr made an early impression on the field and for the Tigers. In his collegiate debut, he won the 60m hurdles with a winning time of 8.23. He outleaned Bellarmine's Carter Olmsted, who beat him in the preliminary round.
Alex Steen had the early top finish in the 1,000m run. Steen had his fastest season debut in the event, running 2:34.74, placing 4th overall, and only .72 off a podium finish. Campbellsville had four athletes in scoring positions in the 3,000m run.
Dominic Malel had his fourth runner-up finish of his early career in the event, running a time of 8:33.85.
Lukas Smithson was 3rd, running a personal best at 8:46.31, brother
Myles Smithson was 4th in a personal best of 8:52.74, and
Aaron Smith was 7th in a personal best of 9:04.66.
Hamby was .01 off, hitting an early season NAIA Standard in the high jump. Hamby was the runner-up in the event, with a height of 2.02m, which he cleared on his second attempt of the day.
Jackson Hollinsworth placed 4th overall in the pole vault on Saturday with a height of 4.20m. Hollinsworth is already .47m ahead of what he was at last season's season opener.
Seth Cartwright and
Mavrik Hall finished in back-to-back positions in the shot put. Cartwrigtht had a season opening best by .49m with a 5th place mark of 14.38m. Hall, making his debut for the Tigers, placed 6th with a mark of 14.30m. In the weight throw,
Jonah Oliver was 8th overall, with his best throw coming from his second attempt of 13.24m.
Campbellsville will be back on the track after Christmas break at Vanderbilt Commodore Challenge on January 10th.
