WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Campbellsville University women's wrestling team traveled to Williamsburg, Kentucky, to participate in the Patriot Duals. The Lady Tigers won against Liberty University, University of the Cumberlands, Siena Heights, Indiana Tech, and Lindsey Wilson. Emma Walker led the way, going undefeated over the entire weekend.
In their first dual of the event, Campbellsville shut out Liberty University, 43-0. Gabrielle Medeiros, Icart Galumette, Emily Anderson, Olivia Messerly, and Carlea Grissom earned wins on forfeits. Gabriella Perez and Walker both collected wins by technical fall in their respective weight-classes. Sierra Chavez, wrestling in the 160 lbs. weight-class, and Liliana Vergara, wrestling in the 180 lbs. weight-class, won by fall. Chavez over Maile Ka'ahanui (2:45) and Vergara over Faith Kiefer (0:42).
The following match, the Lady Tigers defeated the University of the Cumberlands Red, 35-8. Campbellsville collected wins by forfeit: Perez, Walker, and Vergara, by technical fall: Anderson (10-0), and by fall: Medeiros over Ashley Courtney (2:50), Galumette over Elise Toste (0:33), and Messerly over Allyson Arrington (0:32).
The third match of the day ended in favor of the Tigers, defeating Siena Heights, 33-15. The Tigers earned wins by forfeit: Galumette, Vergara, and Medeiros, by technical fall: Emma Walker (10-0) and Sierra Chavez (10-0), and by fall: O. Messerly over Cadence Wallace (0:46) and Addison Messerly over Athena Colderon (0:41).
In their final match of day one, the Lady Tigers fell to Life University Green, 28-20. Campbellsville's wins came from O. Messerly, by fall over Jordyn Chrisco at 4:50, Perez, by technical fall over Morgan Sacharczy, Walker, by fall over Megan Stottsberry at 0:52, and Grissom, by fall over Anetra Witherspoon at 0:39.
Campbellsville opened the second day by defeating the University of the Cumberlands Blue, 30-14. The Tigers' wins were collected by forfeit: Anderson and Grissom, by decision: Medeiros (6-0), and by fall: O. Messerly over Mary Jane Porter (0:54), Perez over Lena Taylor (3:49), and Walker over Cara Brown (0:39).
The Lady Tigers defeated Indiana Tech in the following match, 31-14. Their wins were earned by technical fall: Galumette (10-0), Walker (10-0), and Grissom (11-0), by decision: Vergara (6-4), and by fall: O. Messerly over Hannah Seitzinger (1:21), Perez over Skyley Hanna (4:11), and Chavez over Erin Riggle (1:33).
Campbellsville lost its third match to King University, 33-14. The Lady Tigers earned three wins: Walker by fall over Claire DiCugno (5:23), Chavez by forfeit, and Vergara by decision (5-4).
To conclude the duals, Campbellsville defeated Lindsey Wilson, 30-17. Wins were collected by forfeit: Vergara and Grissom, by technical fall: Walker (10-0), and by fall: Galumette over Callie Payton (1:45), O. Messerly over Abigail Vanderheyden (0:45), and Perez over Leidaly Rivera (1:05).
Campbellsville will be back in action after the new year, competing at the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa, beginning on Friday, January 10th.
