Tigers end victorious in Brescia sweep

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.- The (RV) Tigers hosted the Brescia University Bearcats on Wednesday. Campbellsville kept strong team play throughout the game, taking the victory over Brescia, 3-0.

The Tigers scored the first kill of the match and kept a tight hold on the lead. John-Marcos Gonzalez and Denzel Madrigal's kills quickly brought Campbellsville to double the Bearcats on the scoreboard. Brescia capitalized off of the Tigers' errors to come within a few points from the advantage. Trevor Gruner and Pedro Zavatini quickly widened the gap in the scoreboard with their kills, growing the Bearcats' deficit. The Tigers sank double as many kills (14-7) as Brescia as the end of the first frame approached. Campbellsville won the first set, 25-16.

Much like the first, Campbellsville gained control of the lead pretty early into the second set. The Bearcats had only collected a couple of kills as the Tigers reached double digits on the scoreboard. Gonzalez and Gruner's kills propelled Campbellsville upward in the lead, bringing the Tigers to 20 points while Brescia made their way to 15. The Bearcats attempted to retaliate with avid kills, but they were not enough to catch up with Campbellsville as the second frame closed, and the Tigers won the second set, 25-19.

Zavatini scored the first kill of the third set, with Matheus Curi assisting. Gaston Barrionuevo collected kill after kill, keeping Brescia trailing despite their attempts to surpass Campbellsville. Curi's assists to his fellow Tigers continued to sustain their upper hand. The Bearcats' back-to-back service aces brought them only two points away from the lead. However, Alvaro Grande's agile play on the court attacked Brescia with a fierce block, closing the third set with another win, 25-22.

Campbellsville finished the match with a hitting percentage of .374 and 8.0 blocks, compared to Brescia's .169 hitting percentage and 5.0 blocks. Gonzalez led the Tigers with 18 kills, seven digs, and Curi with 25 assists.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, March 22nd, traveling to Marietta, Georgia, to go against the Life University Eagles beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
