HENDERSON, Tenn.- The Tigers took the road to battle the Freed-Hardeman University Lions. Despite striking out ten batters and collecting two home runs, Campbellsville fell to Freed-Hardeman, 5-3.
Amayas Lamar opened the game with a single up the middle, earning a free base on a passed ball. However, he was unable to reach home before switching sides with the Lions. Freed-Hardeman followed, opening their share of the first with two hits. Three Lion batters crossed the plate, making it first to the scoreboard.
Trent Buchanan and Jonah Bachiu each collected a hit in the opening minutes of the second inning. Henry Wright singled through the left side, bringing Shoki Fukui to score the first run for the Tigers. Campbellsville's top of the third was short-lived, swiftly put away in three up, three down style. Freed-Hardeman struck the Tigers with a 2RBI, amplifying their lead to four runs over Campbellsville.
The Tigers' top of the fourth was highlighted by Yosuke Fujie scoring the first home run for Campbellsville. Although the Lions collected a hit and earned a free base, they did not manage to score a run before the end of the inning was recorded.
Jorge Gonzalez followed Fujie's footsteps, scoring the second home run for the Tigers at the top of the fifth, decreasing Campbellsville's deficit on the scoreboard. Freed-Hardeman began their portion of the inning with a single to third base. The Lions managed to steal second base and earn a free base shortly after, but they could not score in the fifth inning.
Both teams put each other away in a three up, three down style throughout the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. As the game reached the final inning, Mael Zan doubled to left center, and Bachiu reached third base on a fielder's choice. However, they did not manage to catch Freed-Hardeman's upper hand.
Lamar led the Tigers with two hits, while Gonzalez, Fujie, and Wright each collected an RBI. Garrett Maloney and Ryan McFarland worked together, striking out ten Lion batters. Campbellsville surpassed Freed-Hardeman with two home runs to their zero and seven assists to their five.
The Tigers will be back in action tomorrow, on their second day down in Henderson, Tennessee, to complete their three-game series against the Freed-Hardeman University Lions, beginning at 1 & 4 p.m. ET.
