GEORGETOWN, Ky.- The Tigers took the road to battle the Georgetown Tigers in Saturday's doubleheader. Campbellsville finished this weekend's Tiger doubleheader with one victory and one defeat.
GAME ONE: Campbellsville 8, Georgetown 1
Jorge Gonzalez began the game reaching base via walk, unable to reach the plate before the end of the top of the first was recorded. The opposing Tigers were first on the scoreboard, flying out to center field and bringing a batter home.
Lorenzo Gonzalez quickly retaliated in the opening of the second, grounding out to first base, resulting in Mael Zan crossing the dish. Georgetown was quickly put away in three up, three down style during their share of the inning.
To break the tie on the scoreboard, Chad McCann scored the first home run of the game, collecting two runs for the Tigers. The opposing Tigers finished the bottom of the third with one batter left on base, unable to score.
Although Campbellsville did not score any runs during their portion of the fourth, Lorenzo Gonzalez and Yosuke Fujie each collected a hit. Georgetown followed with a hit of their own, also unable to reach home.
McCann and Zan each collected a hit to begin the fifth. With avid momentum, the Tigers scored run after run with two singles from Trent Buchannan and River Terry, followed shortly after by a three-run home run by Fujie. The opposing Tigers doubled down the right field line, but as they could not score, they stood with a seven-run deficit at the closing of the fifth inning.
Campbellsville was put away in three up, three down style in both the sixth and seventh innings. Although Georgetown was also quickly put away in their share of the sixth, they began their portion of the seventh earning a free base via walk.
Zan, Lorenzo Gonzalez, and Fujie each collected two hits. Additionally, Fujie led the Tigers with three RBIs. Tristin Crusenberry struck out five opposing Tiger batters. Campbellsville outperformed Georgetown in a handful of statistical categories: hits (10-2), home runs (2-0), and RBIs (8-1).
GAME TWO: Campbellsville 3, Georgetown 4
The Tigers closed the top of the first with two batters left on base, unable to load their bases before switching sides with the opposing Tigers. Although Georgetown singled up the middle during the bottom of the first, they were also unable to reach home.
River Terry singled to right field in the opening of the second. Fujie made Campbellsville first on the scoreboard with another single, bringing Terry across the plate. The opposing Tigers were swiftly put away in three up, three down style during their share of the inning.
Zan and Buchanan collected back-to-back singles for Campbellsville; however, neither made it home before the end of the top of the third was recorded. Much like the second, Georgetown was quickly put away in three up, three down fashion during the bottom of the third.
Terry reached first base with a hit by pitch, swiftly crossing the plate shortly after with Amayas Lamar at bat. The opposing Tigers collected two hits of their own during the bottom of the fourth, but they were yet to score as the game's halfway point approached.
Buchanan and Lorenzo Gonzalez each earned a free base; however, neither capitalized off the opportunity. Georgetown tied the score at two with a two-run home run during the bottom of the fifth.
Fujie singled up the middle to open the sixth inning. Amayas Lamar followed in his footsteps shortly after, with another single up the middle, resulting in another run for Campbellsville. Although the opposing Tigers earned a couple free bases, they did not score before the end of the inning.
The Tigers were put away in three up, three down fashion during the top of the seventh. Georgetown scored two back-to-back runs, earning their first lead of the game, ahead of Campbellsville by one run.
Both teams put each other away in three up, three down style during the second to last inning. Although Zan doubled to left field in the opening of the ninth inning, he did not make it across the plate before the end of the game, ending in a Campbellsville loss.
Zan and Fujie each collected two hits for the Tigers. Additionally, Lamar led the Tigers with two RBIs. Zane Morrison and Mason Lee worked together, striking out 11 opposing Tiger batters.
The Tigers will be back in action hosting the University of Pikeville Bears on Wednesday, April 17th, beginning at 4 p.m. ET.
