Tigers shut down Patriots in three sets

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY. –  The Tigers hosted the University of Cumberlands Patriots and swept them Thursday night. Erica Rosario Calderon's (11) and Brooke Hager's (ten) double-digit kills brought the Tigers another sweep to their record, their ninth of 2024.

The opening kill was scored by the Tigers. The Patriots would take an advantage of two points, however, it was not too long after when the Tigers snatched the lead back. Attacks and mistakes in service caused the Patriots to fall behind early. Campbellsville was in a streak with seven points taking the first set from the patriots, 25-16.

The second set saw the Patriots out again to a hot start. As the frame continued, Campbellsville' s front row was finding open spots to kill the ball, and suddenly, the Tigers were up by four points over the Patriots. The Cumberlands were battling for each point with long rallies both ways. Then, the Patriots' defense began to falter and fell behind, allowing eight consecutive points scored by the Tigers. Campbellsville clinched the second set, 25-16.

Emily Aabye scored the initial kill for the third, and ultimately, deciding set. Quickly, the Patriots faced a nine-point gap. Despite a sustained effort by the Cumberlands as Campbellsville approached their 20th point, the Tigers' defense and consistent play prevented any comeback. They completed the sweep over the Patriots with a 25-17 victory.

The Tigers will return to the court Tuesday, September 24th against Midway University in Midway, Kentucky. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
