Two early goals from Oskarsson help lead Tigers to 5-1 defeat over Midway

MIDWAY, Ky. – The Campbellsville Tigers traveled to Midway, Kentucky, to face off against the Midway University Eagles on Wednesday afternoon. Campbellsville secured a 5-1 win, scoring early and maintaining control throughout the match.

The Tigers got off to a strong start, taking the lead by two goals early in the match. Gustav Oskarsson scored the first goal in the eighth minute. Oskarsson quickly followed with his second goal less than two minutes later, assisted by Nicolo Lanari, setting an assertive tone right from the game's opening minutes. This quick scoring fragment put the Tigers in control, not allowing the Eagles to advance on the field. Before the first half ended, Jamie Bird set up a corner kick leading to the third goal, which Fabio Barbosa scored.

In the second half, Campbellsville dominated the field over Midway. Ollie Jagroop scored a goal assisted by Mihlali Blesi in the 48th minute. The Eagles were awarded a penalty shot that Josh Quigley saved; however, the ball bounced back, giving Tomas Sarmiento an opportunity to score a header and put Midway on the scoreboard. The Tigers kept an aggressive offense as they pushed forward, looking for more opportunities to score. Malte Ekman scored the fifth goal in the 70th minute, assisted by Blesi. Campbellsville was well positioned, gaining position of the ball and striking every opportunity to score, obtaining the victory against the Eagles, 5-1.

The Campbellsville Tigers will travel to Lebanon, Tennessee, on Friday, October 4th, to face the Cumberland University Phoenix in their first conference match-up of the season. The match is set to kick off at 5:30 p.m. ET.
