Tigers defeat Wildcats for 11th consecutive time in sweep

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers hosted the Bethel University Wildcats on Saturday. Following honoring Molly Shannon's 1000 career kills, Campbellsville collected its 11th consecutive win against Bethel in straight sets.

Emily Aabye and Brooke Hager came onto the court with fierce kills, putting the Tigers on the scoreboard with an early lead in the game. Jana Krstic's assists to Cierra Merrick propelled Campbellsville forward, quickly doubling their advantage over the Wildcats. The Tigers capitalized off Bethel's attack errors and a few service aces, taking the first set, 25-13.

In the opening minutes of the second frame, the Wildcats only managed to collect a couple of points in their favor before Campbellsville reached double digits on the scoreboard. Erica Calderon's back-to-back kills continued to increase the Tigers' upper hand. Bethel amplified their offensive strikes, coming within two points from Campbellsville's advantage, but the Tigers did not falter at the sight of strife. Calderon and Krstic's control at the net prevented the Wildcats from decreasing their deficit enough to steal the lead, earning the Tigers the second set, 25-20.

Unlike the first two sets of the match, Bethel capitalized off Campbellsville's attack errors to earn the first few points of the third frame. The Wildcats' lead was short-lived as Calderon scored back-to-back kills and claimed the lead for the Tigers. Shannon's attacks put Campbellsville five points ahead of Bethel, setting the tone for the rest of the contest. As the Wildcats continued to rack up errors, the Tigers won the final set, 25-17.

The Tigers will be back in action traveling to Lebanon, Tennessee on Thursday, October 3rd to battle the Cumberland University Phoenix beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
