Tigers continue win streak after 3-0 sweeps over Bears, Mighty Oaks

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers returned home this Saturday, September 7th, hosting Oakland City Mighty Oaks and Shawnee State Bears. Campbellsville dominated their home court and secured three-set sweeps against Oakland City and Shawnee State.

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 3, Oakland City 0

The first set started with a long rally, with the Oakland City Mighty Oaks getting the first kill of the set. The Campbellsville Tigers scored seven consecutive points, causing the Mighty Oaks to fall behind. After an uncomplicated set, the Tigers took the first set from Oakland City, 25-11.

The Tigers and Mighty Oaks battled each point compared to the previous set. Campbellsville took the lead; however, the Mighty Oaks crawled back to tie the set at 22-22. Molly Shannon found a wide-open line, claiming the final point with a kill to take the second set, 25-22.

In the third set, the Mighty Oaks had an early advantage of two points, but the Tigers did not slip away and connected with two consecutive kills from Zofia Serafinowska. Oakland City rallied and rebounded. A back-and-forth battle was being held, but the Mighty Oaks fell short. The Tigers dominated their court home, claiming the third set to sweep Oakland City, 25-18.

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 3, Shawnee State 0

Shawnee State obtained the first kill of the match. Both teams were equally fighting for each point, not allowing each other to score more than a couple of points ahead of the other. The scoreboard was pretty even for most of the set, with Shawnee State and Campbellsville showcasing solid offensive play. With a set complete of long rallies, the Tigers took the advantage and clinched the first set, 25-20.

Campbellsville started the second set with a two-point deficit on the scoreboard. The Bears' defense was vital to keeping the team up in the set. However, the Tigers' offense played the right strategy to find the open spot. Shawnee State had a five-point lead in the set, but it did not impede Campbellsville from bouncing back and securing the second set with a kill by Cierra Merrick, 25-22.

In the third set, the Tigers opened with seven points unanswered from the Bears. Campbellsville kept their seven-point advantage to continue in the lead, with the front row killing the ball and blocking Shawnee States' opportunities to score. The Tigers claimed the third set and swept the Bears, 25-19.

The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, September 10th, to face their first Mid-South Conference opponent, Lindsey Wilson College, in Columbia, Kentucky. The match will begin at 7 p.m. ET.

  • Emily Aabey led the way with a combined 17 kills, and Brooke Hager had 14 kills overall from both matches.
  • Jana Krstic had 66 cumulative assists.
  • Campbellsville has not faced Oakland City since 2021, continuing a five-match win streak.
  • After today's match against the Bears, the Tigers marked their 20th win. The Tigers have not lost against the Bears since 2021.
