CEDAR FALLS, Ia. – Campbellsville picked up three Top 20 wins this weekend at the NWCA/USMC Multi-Division National Dual Meet Championships.
CU saw #16 Hastings first on the mat.
Riley Banyas won by forfeit, and Campbellsville never looked back. Gabrielle Mederios,
Icart Galumette,
Josie Davis, and
Olivia Messerly rattled off four straight wins to control the dual.
Emma Walker,
Sierra Chavez, and
Liliana Vergara were also victorious. Messerly, Walker, and Vergara each beat the 10th-ranked wrestler in their respective weight classes.
The Lady Tigers lost their next dual to #1 Life University, 39-4. They bounced back quickly with a 34-11 win over #13 Doane. Banyas earned a tech fall to start the dual, 10-0. After the match was tied 4-4, CU took control and won the next seven bouts. Galumette, Davis, Messerly, Gabriella Perez, Walker, Chavez, and Vergara earned those victories.
Campbellsville would square off with #12 Baker in the conciliation semis. Banyas started her third straight match with a win over #19 Veronica Greene. Medeiros followed up with a 5-0 result. The middleweight classes pushed the momentum again. Davis, Messerly, Perez, and Walker each put up team points. Vergara earned a tech fall in her matchup over #15 Nevaeh Wardlow.
CU was bested in the 5th place match by #3 University of the Cumberlands, 31-16. Perez was awarded a 5-2 decision.
Emma Walker pinned the opposition in 19 seconds. Vergara won via the forfeit.
The Lady Tigers shift their focus to the Tornado Open next weekend in Bristol, Tenn.
