LOUISVILLE, KY –
Schavon Carr punched his ticket to the NAIA National Championship over the weekend and put his name in the record books in the 60m hurdles.
Carr hit an NAIA A Standard in the 60m hurdles, placing 2nd in the finals with a time of 8.01, besting the previous record from last year set by
Van Thrasher of 8.13. Carr now ranks 3rd in the NAIA with that time.
JaQuez Campbell was only .02 seconds off qualifying for finals in the 60m dash. He ran 6.98, placing 9th overall.
Zachary Phelps placed inside the top 20 in the 200m with a 15th-place finish of 22.54. Phelps was able to run his way to an 8th-place finish in the 400m with a time of 50.72.
On the distance side of the track over the weekend,
Alex Steen dipped under the two-minute mark for the first time this season with a 1:59.16 effort, placing 6th. The biggest distance performances of the weekend came from the Smithson brothers.
Lukas Smithson and
Myles Smithson both bested the previous mile record set by Sam Kiser in the 2020-21 season. Lukas placed 4th overall with a new record time of 4:15.63, while Myles was 1.05 seconds behind in 7th at 4:16.68. The duo had even splits throughout the entire race with the first lap being the slowest of the eight lap race.
Lukas also competed at the Vanderbilt Invitational on Saturday where he ran 8:44.30 in the 3,000m run.
Martin Batel had the top finish in the 3,000m run at Bellarmine on Friday with his 8:56.67 time that placed him in 15th overall.
Raylon Wilson garnered 5th in the high jump, clearing 1.90m on his first attempt of the day.
Mavrik Hall,
Jonah Oliver, and
Seth Cartwright were all within four places of each other in the shot put at Bellarmine on Friday. Hall led the way, placing 12th with a throw of 12.89m, Oliver was 13th at 12.80m, and Cartwright rounded out the trio in 14th with a throw of 12.47m. All three throwers placed inside the top 20 in the weight throw. Hall led the way again, placing 16th at 13.21m, Oliver was 18th with a throw of 12.97m, and Cartwright placed 20th at 12.06m.
Campbellsville will travel to Danville, KY, on Saturday, January 25th, for the Centre Invitational.
