Tigers go undefeated in duals, Walker shows out in open at #7 Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Campbellsville Tigers traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana, to take part in the Indiana Tech Warrior Duals and the Indiana Tech Open on Friday and Saturday. Campbellsville remained undefeated throughout the duals, winning over Ottawa University (28-13), Montreat College (43-5), Indiana Tech (27-17), and Hiram College (44-0). Emma Walker found herself on top of the podium, winning at the 145 lbs.-bracket.

Walker remained undefeated on Saturday, wrestling her way to a first-place finish. Walker won by fall over unattached Cadence Butts (1:58) in round one, followed by a technical fall win over Indiana Tech's Brooklyn Figueroa (10-0). Walker defeated North Central College's Clare Waite by fall (1:16) in the quarterfinal match before winning by decision in the semifinal match over North Central College's Riley Aamold (4-3). During the first-place match, Walker won by fall over Eastern Oregon's Liv Wieber (1:45).

Five other Tiger wrestlers earned top-ten finishes: Olivia Messerly at 131 lbs. (sixth), Liliana Vergara at 180 lbs. (sixth), Claire Avery at 160 lbs. (sixth), Riley Banyas at 103 lbs. (seventh), and Gaby Perez at 138 lbs. (eighth).

O. Messerly won three matches, earning wins by fall over Eastern Oregon's Makenna Duran (1:02), by technical fall over Tiffin's Sienna Sanborn (10-0), and by decision over University of the Cumberlands' Mary Jane Porter (7-2).

Vergara received a first-round bye before winning two other matches, earning wins by technical fall over Hastings' Marissa Patterson (12-2) and by technical fall over University of the Cumberlands' Saiheron Preciado-Meza (12-2).

Avery won three matches, earning wins by fall over John Carroll's Talia Mithcell (2:37), by technical fall over St. Andrews' Laney Rhodes (10-0), and by fall over Ottawa's GiGi Jones (0:43).

Banyas won three matches, earning wins by fall over University of the Cumberlands' Angelina Casteneda (2:05), by fall over Missouri Valley's Sage Beltran (4:33), and by fall over University of the Cumberlands' Angelina Casteneda (5:38).

Perez won two matches, earning wins by technical fall over Baker's Audrey Barnell (10-0) and by fall over Mount Union's Emma Hanrahan (5:57).

MATCH ONE: Campbellsville 28, Ottawa 13

Campbellsville's match against Ottawa ended in favor of the Tigers, 28-13. Three Tigers earned wins by fall: O. Messerly at 131 lbs. over Emma Truex (0:52), Walker at 145 lbs. over Kaydence Bonewell (0:39), and Brianna Staebler at 207 lbs. over Faith Spicer (2:11). Three Tigers earned wins by technical fall: Icart Galumette at 117 lbs. over Kendall Martin (10-0), Perez at 138 lbs. over Livia Swift (10-0), and Vergara at 180 lbs. over Ciera Hutton-Spieker (11-1).

MATCH TWO: Campbellsville 27, Indiana Tech 17

Campbellsville's match against Indiana Tech ended in favor of the Tigers, 27-17. Three Tigers earned wins by fall: Walker at 145 lbs. over Maia Crumb (2:23), Kylee Tait at 160 lbs. over Cydney Bassett (1:06), and Vergara at 180 lbs. over Catherine McNutty (0:32). Two Tigers earned wins by technical fall: Galumette at 117 lbs. over Allison Hancher (10-0) and Perez at 138 lbs. over Alexis Kelley (10-0). O. Messerly, at 131 lbs., won by decision over Isabelle Silva (11-2).

MATCH THREE: Campbellsville 44, Hiram 0

Campbellsville's match against Hiram ended in favor of the Tigers, 44-0. Two Tigers earned wins by fall: Perez at 138 lbs. over Mallory Chunat (1:07) and Werbrich at 160 lbs. over Allydia Byard (2:13). Gabrielle Medeiros, at 110 lbs., won by technical fall over Emma Bowers (13-0).

MATCH FOUR: Campbellsville 43, Montreat 5

Campbellsville's match against Montreat ended in favor of the Tigers, 43-5. Two Tigers earned wins by fall: O. Messerly at 131 lbs. over Anna Skoda (0:44) and Walker at 145 lbs. over Uriah Peters-Gutierrez (0:21). Two Tigers earned wins by technical fall: Meghan Werbrich at 160 lbs. over Nicole Lewis (10-0) and Vergara over Audrey Gribble (10-0). The remainder of the wins came from forfeit. 

The Tigers will return to the mat on Saturday, February 1st, to participate in the Blue Raider Open in Columbia, Kentucky. The event is set to begin at 10 a.m. ET.
