Colvin collects 500th career win with come-from-behind victory against #11 Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The #4 Lady Tigers faced the #11 Georgetown Tigers Saturday afternoon, nearing the conclusion of the 2024-25 regular season. Despite trailing 33 of the 40 minutes, Campbellsville put together a 24-8 second-half run to take the lead and get Coach Ginger High Colvin her 500th career win.

Campbellsville struggled offensively early, with their first few possessions resulting in missed shots. Georgetown capitalized, jumping out to an early lead thanks in part to the rival Tigers' guards and their offensive contributions. While Tyra Flowers provided some scoring for Campbellsville, the team struggled with turnovers throughout the quarter, hindering their ability to establish a consistent offensive rhythm. Georgetown's defense, spearheaded by interior rebounding and steals, proved disruptive. Although Campbellsville showed flashes of potential, they couldn't contain Georgetown's perimeter play, connecting from beyond the arc four times in all. The Lady Tigers found themselves down by double digits at the end of the first quarter, needing to make adjustments on both ends of the floor to close the gap, ultimately trailing 22-11.

The second period began with Georgetown extending their lead thanks to an early three-pointer. Campbellsville responded with Dea Bradley slicing through the defense and scoring inside. Lauren Lee then began to find her rhythm, hitting a short jumper and contributing to the scoring effort. Georgetown also made plays, forcing the referees to make calls and then converting their free throws. Talynne Shearer was active for Campbellsville though, scoring in the paint and matching baskets. The teams continued trading buckets, and turnovers continued to be a factor for both teams. Towards the end of the half, Campbellsville attempted to chip away at the lead, with Lee continuing to score, but Georgetown maintained control. Despite some net-positive plays, like a layup from Whitney Hay, Campbellsville couldn't fully close the gap. At halftime, the Lady Tigers found themselves down, needing a strong second-half performance to overcome Georgetown's lead, 37-28.

Campbellsville came out of the locker room with renewed focus in the third quarter. Lee spearheaded the offensive effort for the Lady Tigers, consistently finding the basket and getting to the free-throw line, converting crucial free throws to chip away at Georgetown's lead. Campbellsville's defensive pressure intensified, forcing Georgetown into turnovers, including several steals by Flowers that disrupted the Georgetown offensive flow. While Georgetown's guards continued to be a scoring threat, Campbellsville's defense began to limit their effectiveness, making it tougher for Georgetown to find open shots. Hay became a presence inside for Campbellsville, grabbing rebounds and adding points in the paint. The Lady Tigers' efforts paid off as they steadily narrowed the gap, getting to within one possession of taking the lead. However, Georgetown managed to hold onto their slim advantage, 59-55.

Campbellsville stormed back in the fourth quarter, outscoring Georgetown 25-13 to secure a thrilling 80-72 victory. Whitney Hay came up big for Campbellsville, scoring 12 points in the quarter, including several key baskets inside and a perfect 4-for-4 performance from the free-throw line. Tyra Flowers continued to be a force on both ends of the floor, adding five points, grabbing rebounds, dishing out assists, and registering a crucial block. Paige Serafini provided a spark from deep, connecting on a three-pointer to help fuel the comeback. Campbellsville's defense stepped up in the fourth, limiting Georgetown's offensive opportunities and forcing turnovers. Lee, despite struggling with her shot, made a crucial free throw down the stretch, while Maddie Nalley came off the bench to grab key rebounds and score a layup. The Lady Tigers' energy and focus were evident as they battled for every possession, refusing to let Georgetown back into the game. Despite Georgetown's efforts, Campbellsville's defense held strong, 80-72.
