CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The #12 Lady Tigers took to the mat in their final regular-season match against conference rival #7 Lindsey Wilson in the Hord Family Wrestling Center Saturday night. Through riveting matches on Alumni Night, the Lady Tigers fought, but the Blue Raiders would come away with a 24-23 victory.
Following a forfeit in the lightweight division,
Gabrielle Medeiros faced Rodiat Adeduntan. She started the match with a single-leg takedown, but Medeiros responded with a tackle, gaining the advantage at the end of the first period. In the second period, with the score tied up, Adeduntan earned a pin in the winding seconds to secure the match.
Down 10-0,
Icart Galumette hit the mat next for CU, making short work of her opponent #13 Callie Payton with a pinfall to get the Lady Tigers on the scoreboard.
Josie Davis battled #9 Camilla Brooks. Davis fell 10-0 via technical fall.
Campbellsville hit Lindsey Wilson with back-to-back pins after going down 14-5 to the Blue Raiders. #12
Olivia Messerly cut into the Lindsey Wilson lead, and then #9 Gabby Perez gave the Lady Tigers their first advantage of the match with her win via pin.
Fa'lia Martinez looked to build on the momentum against #7 Kori Campbell, typical of the 138-lb weight class. Campbell bested Martinez with a technical fall, giving the Blue Raiders back the lead.
Then, #20
Sierra Chavez faced off against #7 Jassy Campos (of the 145 lbs weight class). After a tight first period, Chavez had a one-point advantage, holding the only point scored. The match would remain close in the second, but Chavez played great defense and won, giving the Lady Tigers the lead.
After a forfeit at 180 lbs., Lindsey Wilson faced a four-point disadvantage at 23-19. The last match featured #14
Brianna Staebler and #10 Hayeni Costa, where Costa proved to be the clutch and secured the Blue Raider win with her pin.
Campbellsville will be in action on Friday, February 28th, for the Mid-South Conference Championships in Bowling Green, KY.
