Tigers place 5th at Mid-South Conference Championships

DANVILLE, KY – Campbellsville finished out the Mid-South Conference Championships over the weekend at Centre College, placing 5th overall in the final standings. 

The Tigers began the meet with 28 pints coming from the 200-yard freestyle relay. Ian Lopez, Bosco Barrero, Andreu Jaén Serra, and Llewellyn Crewe-Brown placed 5th in the relay in 1:27.43. Luis Castro and Jaen Serra finished in back-to-back positions in the B final of the 500-yard freestyle. Castro won the B final, placing 9th overall in an NAIA Provisional time of 4:46.62, while Jaen Serra was 10th in 4:53.36. 

Crewe-Brown made the A final of the 200-yard IM, scoring key points for the Tigers. He was 1.81 seconds off, finishing 7th overall with his NAIA Provisional time of 1:58.32. Logan Pisula was in the B final of the event, placing 16th in the finals at 2:08.32. Lopez and Barrero qualified for the B finals in the 50-yard freestyle. Lopez gave the Tigers six points, placing 11th in 21.74, and Barrero earned one point in 16th at 22.49. 

28 more points came out of the 400-yard medley relay for Campbellsville. Crewe-Brown, Yuri Prokopchuk, Lopez, and Jaen Serra finished in 5th at 3:31.03. The first bronze medal for Campbellsville came out of the 200-yard medley. Lopez, Prokopchuk, Crewe-Brown, and Jaen Serra beat out 4th place by .16 seconds with a time of 1:35.59. 

In the finals of the 100-yard butterfly, Lopez led the way in the A final, placing 8th in a time of 53.98. Crewe-Brown led a trio of Tigers in the B final. He placed 10th in 53.68, Jackson Willett was 13th in 56.24, and Martin Venegas placed 16th in 57.30. Jaen Serra earned his way to the A final of the 400-yard IM, placing 8th overall at 4:25.98. Barrero placed 12th in the B final for the 400-yard IM in 4:34.41. 

Castro was the winner of the B final in the 200-yard freestyle. He placed 9th overall in the event in 1:48.33. Prokopchuk was only .11 off a bronze medal in the 100-yard breaststroke in 56.27, while third place was 56.17. Crewe-Brown kept a .94 second spread in his 100-yard backstroke in the B finals, placing 13th in the event at 55.20. 

The second bronze medal of the meet for Campbellsville was in the 800-yard freestyle. Jaen Serra, Crewe-Brown, Lopez, and Castro were in solo 3rd place giving the Tigers 32 points in 7:16.46. Two Provisional cuts came out of the 1650-yard freestyle. Jaen Serra and Castro were 14.41 seconds apart in the event finishing in 7th and 8th. Jaen Serra was 7th at 16:41.69, and Castro was 8th in 16:56.10. 

Adam Peeden placed 12th in the B finals of the 200-yard backstroke, earning five points in 2:18.07. 20 points were added to the Tigers score with five athletes in the B finals of the 100-yard freestyle. Venegas led the way in 10th place with seven points at 49.77, Willett was 12th in 49.96, Barrero placed 13th overall at 50.09, Lopez was behind Barrero in 14th at 50.64, and Lucca Vieirra Motta completed the scoring for the event in 16th with a time of 52.78. 

In the 200-yard breaststroke, Prokopchuk was 11th overall in the B final of the event in an NAIA Provisional cut in 2:08.77. In the final event of the meet, Campbellsville placed 5th in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Crewe-Brown, Venegas, Jaen Serra, and Barrero earned the team 28 points in 3:16.70. 

Overall as a team, the Tigers earned 304 team points and placed 5th of 6. Assistant Coach Lizandri Crewe-Brown was named the Mid-South Conference Assistant Coach of the Year for the men's program this season. Campbellsville will now have four weeks to prepare for the individuals who have qualified for the NAIA National Championships in Elkhart, Indiana.
