Tigers stumble against Eagles

WALESKA, Ga. – Campbellsville continued its journey back north but faced a tough challenge in the Eagles' nest, falling in three sets to Reinhardt University. Despite decisive offensive moments, the Tigers struggled to overcome Reinhardt's aggressive serving and consistent attack.

The Eagles set the tone early in the first set, scoring the first two points before Campbellsville responded with a kill from Pedro Zavatini. Reinhardt proved to be a force from the service line, tallying two early aces, but John Marcos Gonzalez kept the Tigers close, bringing them within one. Both teams displayed strong offensive play, battling to an 11-11 tie. A service error from Reinhardt allowed Campbellsville to close the gap again, but the Tigers took a timeout after an attack error. Coming out of the break, Gonzalez delivered a kill, Zavatini notched an ace, and Denzel Madrigal added a kill to push the Tigers forward. However, Reinhardt's serving pressure proved too much, and Campbellsville dropped the opening set 25-21.

The second set started similarly, with Reinhardt striking first, but the Tigers responded with kills from Gonzalez and Madrigal. Campbellsville built some early momentum, extending their lead to two after back-to-back kills. However, the Eagles quickly answered, tying the score 5-5. Ayoube Hamadache helped the Tigers regain the lead at 10-9, forcing a Reinhardt timeout midway through the set. The Eagles regrouped and fought back to tie it at 16, setting the stage for a back-and-forth battle. The teams remained deadlocked at 19, but Reinhardt found a late surge, creating a three-point cushion. Both teams hit efficiently, but the Eagles had the slight edge, closing out the set 25-23.

Reinhardt carried that momentum into the third set, jumping to a quick six-point lead. Campbellsville struggled with hitting errors and serve receive, making it difficult to establish an offensive rhythm. The Tigers also found it challenging to utilize their middles, which are
typically one of their most productive positions. The Eagles maintained control and finished the match dominantly, taking the final set 25-22.

Campbellsville will continue its road trip, heading to the Cumberland University Classic to face Cumberland University on Thursday, March 13, at 5 p.m. ET as they resume River States Conference play.
