MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Campbellsville opened up the outdoor season on the road at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge over the weekend.
Schavon Carr punched his early ticket to the NAIA Outdoor National Championships with an NAIA B Standard in the 110m hurdles. Carr placed runner-up in the finals in 14.44.Â
Jason Baskerville made an early season impression for the team. Baskerville set the school record in the 100m finals on Saturday placing 2nd overall in the finals in 10.63.
Isiah Bain was the top finisher for Campbellsville in the 200m. Bain ran his way to a top-25 finish in the event in 22.58 on a -0.8 wind.Â
Zachary Phelps continued his sub-50 second consistency he set during the indoor season in the 400m on Saturday. Phelps placed himself inside the top-15 in the event with a 14th-place time of 49.57. Rookie Matthias Brice was .33 seconds behind Phelps in 17th place overall at 49.90.Â
The trio of
Lukas Smithson,
Dominic Malel, and
Alex Steen were all top-20 finishers and ran under the two-minute mark in the 800m. Smithson led the way in 12th place, running 1:57.37; Malel was two spots behind in 14th at 1:58.47, and Steen rounded out the group in 18th place at 1:59.90. Both Smithson and Malel ran in the fast heat of the 1500m run. Smithson once again was first in the team, earning one point in 8th place at 4:00.68, and Malel was 9th at 4:00.78. Â
Aaron Smith set a personal best in the 5,000m run, giving the Tigers three points in 6th place at 15:33.84.
Martin Batel was 5.98 seconds off tying the school record in the 3,000m steeplechase. Batel placed 2nd in the event in 9:26.64.Â
In college the 4x200m relay is a rarely ran event at most meets. The relay team of Bain, Phelps, Brice,
Kamarion Ward shattered the school record in the event with a 4th place time of 1:28.21. The previous record has stood since 2010 of 1:41.58. In the 4x800m relay, Steen, Lukas, Malel, and
Myles Smithson were able to get under the 8:00 barrier in the event with a 5th place time of 7:59.28.Â
Duo
CamRon Hamby and
Corey Smith II placed in the top five in the triple jump over the weekend. Hamby won his first event of the outdoor season with an NAIA B Standard mark of 15.01m on his third attempt of the day. Smith was 5th overall, with his best jump coming on his 6th and final attempt, landing at 14.20m.Â
Seth Cartwright opened his outdoor season, placing in the top-15 of the shot put. Cartwright had his best throw land at 13.85m on his first throw of the day.
Jonah Oliver earned a top-20 finish in the discus with a 42.72m mark coming off his second throw.Â
The Tigers will return to the track on Saturday, March 22nd, when they travel to the Lee University Invitational.
