Holton's two-goal match pushes Tigers over Eagles in 4-2 victory

MIDWAY, Ky.- The Tigers took the road to battle the Midway University Eagles on Tuesday night. Campbellsville held the lead throughout the entire match, and although Midway racked up a couple of goals in the last 15 minutes of play, the Tigers took the victory, 4-2.

  • Freshman Mark Holton led the Tigers with two goals, three shots, and two shots on goal, followed by sophomore Mihlali Blesi with one goal, two shots, and two shots on goal, and junior Malte Ekman with two shots and one shot on goal.
  • Campbellsville surpassed Midway in a few statistical categories of the match: goals (4-2), assists (2-1), and shots on goal (9-3).
  • Tonight's game was the Tigers' third contest against the Eagles; Campbellsville now holds a record of three consecutive victories against Midway.

Campbellsville began the game earning an early lead with two goals by Mark Holton, assisted by Martin Sahlstrand and Tobias Etim. Juan Zapata and Holton attempted shot after shot, and Ollie Jagroop saw an opportunity at the corner, all blocked by Midway's defense. At the end of the first half, the Tigers led the game, 2-0.

Etim and Oisin Lalor came into the second half with avid shots at the goal, continuing to highlight Campbellsville's offensive dominance on the field. As the second period unfolded, Mihlali Blesi and Izan Garcia Gancedo collected two more goals for the Tigers, increasing their advantage, while the Eagles were yet to score. Halfway through the second half, Midway made it to the scoreboard with their first goal of the game. Malte Ekman attempted two shots in the final stretch of the match, one blocked by the Eagles' defense and one saved by their goalie. With one minute left on the clock, Midway put up another goal, decreasing their deficit on the scoreboard. However, their offensive efforts were not enough to catch up with the lead, resulting in another Tiger victory, 4-2.
