KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Campbellsville University women's basketball team appears in the top five for the sixth consecutive rating period, landing at #5 in the latest NAIA Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll released Wednesday.
The Lady Tigers (20-4, 5-3 MSC) garnered 448 voting points in the poll, slipping just one spot from their previous #4 ranking. Marian (Ind.) leapfrogged Campbellsville to take the #4 spot with 459 points, while Dordt (Iowa) remained the unanimous #1.
The Mid-South Conference continues to prove itself as the nation's deepest league, with five teams ranked in the Top 25 and two others receiving votes. Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) held steady at #2 with 516 points, and Bethel (Tenn.) remained at #3 with 508 points. Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) made the biggest jump of the poll, vaulting 11 spots to #13, while the University of the Cumberlands checked in at #21.
Campbellsville boasts one of the nation's most potent offensive attacks, averaging 83.5 points per game with a blistering +28.3 scoring margin. Graduate
Whitney Hay leads the charge, averaging 17.6 points per game on 54.4% shooting, while
Dea Bradley adds 13.7 points per contest. The defense remains a staple of the program's success, forcing opponents into over 20 turnovers per game and collecting 13.8 steals per contest.
The release of the poll sets the stage for what may be the most critical week of the regular season. The #5 Lady Tigers are set to travel to McKenzie, Tennessee, preparing to face #3 Bethel University tomorrow, Thursday, February 12. They will then travel to Henderson, Tennessee, on Saturday, February 14, for a showdown with #2 Freed-Hardeman.
Tip-off against the #3 Wildcats is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET tomorrow night.
