Flag Football primed to build on historic momentum in 2026 season

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The (RV) Campbellsville University Women's Flag Football team is set to launch its fourth season, stepping onto the gridiron with historic momentum and a new era of leadership.

Under the guidance of first-year Head Coach Spencer McCown, the Tigers are riding high after a 2025 campaign that marked the program's first-ever winning season with a 10-8 overall record. The national office has taken notice, with Campbellsville receiving votes in the first-ever NAIA Women's Flag Football Preseason Poll ahead of their season debut.

"We have to strive to set the standard every day, every chance we get, in every drill, and every rep we get," McCown said. "Set the standard, be the standard, exceed the standard."

The team's 2025 performance set a high bar for the program. The offense was an absolute force, amassing 406 total points to average 22.5 points and 218 yards per game over their 18 contests. On the other side of the ball, the defense recorded a program-high 28 defensive points.

A crucial component of that defensive success was Timaya Woody. The junior from Trenton, New Jersey, is returning to anchor the defense at linebacker. Woody had a staggering sophomore campaign where she set a program record with 93 flag pulls.

"Timaya is a talented defensive player looking to take command of the defense this year," McCown said of Woody. "She set a program record of 93 flag pulls in 18 games last year and we're looking to break that this year."

The Tigers' roster also features several young athletes ready to elevate the program. Coach McCown specifically highlighted sophomore wide receiver and defensive back Alex Odom. Odom came onto the scene during the second half of last season and established herself as a reliable target.

"I believe she is primed for a breakout year!" McCown added.

Joining the ranks is freshman running back and cornerback Reagan Coupe from Las Vegas, Nevada.

"Reagan is a talented, young athlete," McCown noted regarding Coupe. "She's only a freshman this year, but you don't want to underestimate her. She does as she's asked, gets her mistakes fixed the first time, and is always looking to get better. She is looking to make a big impact on both sides of the ball for us this year!"

The 2026 schedule promises plenty of action, starting today with a neutral-site match-up against LaGrange College at 2 p.m. ET, Friday, February 20th . This will be immediately followed by an away showdown against Huntingdon College at 3:30 p.m. ET in Montgomery, Alabama.

Fans can look forward to the return of the annual Flag Frenzy tournament at Finley Stadium on March 27th and 28th. During the two-day event, the Tigers will host the University of Saint Francis, Siena Heights University, and Life University. Additionally, the introduction of the Cumberland Phoenix and the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders to the sport brings new in-state rivalry match-ups to the calendar. Campbellsville will travel to face Cumberland on March 11th and Lindsey Wilson on March 13th, before hosting them at Finley Stadium on April 1st and April 3rd, respectively.

With returning veterans stepping into leadership roles and eager newcomers injecting fresh energy, the Tigers are geared up to keep their momentum rolling and prove they belong among the NAIA's elite.
