COLUMBIA, Ky. – Tiger Baseball dealt damage early and used an excellent start from Forno, to seal their conference opener over Lindsey Wilson.
- Brody Forno tossed six innings of one-hit baseball, striking out seven Blue Raiders
- Senior Antony Gilbert was a force at the plate, going 3-for-5 and scoring two runs. He homered and hit a double, driving in three runs.
- Sophomore Joaquin Hernandez finished with three hits, scoring and driving in a run.
- Infielder Anthony Espositio was .500 for the day, scoring one run and driving in two
- The Tigers and Blue Raiders conclude the opening MSC series with a double-header tomorrow starting at 1 p.m. ET
Coming fresh off a midweek win over Union Commonwealth University, the Tigers carried the momentum and quickly found a crooked number.
Anthony Esposito singled through the right side in the leadoff spot.
Antony Gilbert worked a 2-1 count and sent a moonshot out to left field. The Tigers scored two runs on two hits to take the early advantage.
Brody Forno took the bump for CU and induced three quick outs.
In the second, Campbellsville added another three runs on four hits.
Kleysen Gabruck doubled down the left field line before
Joaquin Hernandez scored him with a single up the middle.
Waldy Reyes followed suit with a single, putting two aboard for the Tigers. A balk would advance both runners into scoring position. Esposito executed a sac fly scoring Hernandez. Gilbert would deliver his second blow of the contest with an RBI single to left field; the Tigers now lead 5-0. Forno continued to dominate with a pair of strikeouts to end the second.
The game's offense would slow down quickly as both defenses settled in. In the fifth inning, Gilbert smashed his third hit with a double to left center. Thomas Krugger singled to put runners on the corners.
Kyle Liu scored Giblert with a fly ball to right field. Campbellsville added another insurance run in the sixth with an Esposito RBI groundout that scored
Tate Wischnack.
Lindsey Wilson finally broke through in the 7th and 8th, with a single run in each inning. The Tigers closed out the Mid-South Conference opener, 7-2.
