Tigers win series with second-day split against Lindsey Wilson

COLUMBIA, Ky. – In their second day 20 minutes south of home, Tate Wischnack powered Campbellsville to a 3-1 victory in game two before the Tigers fell in tightly contested 5-3 battle to wrap up the tilt.

  • Joe McBride clinched the series for Campbellsville going six innings, givning up six hits, one run and striking out five. 
  • Senior Tate Wischnack tallied three hits, three RBIs and a run scored 
  • Outfielder Kleysen Gabruck also picked up three hits, crossing the plate twice. 
  • The Tigers flashed the leather this weekend turning three double plays. 
  • Campbellsville returns home on Tuesday with a single game against Midway. First pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m. ET. 
GAME ONE: Campbellsville 3, Lindsey Wilson 1
Nick Hagen drew a two-out walk in the first inning for the Tigers. Trey Proctor pinch ran and stole second, providing the game's first threat early. Proctor bagged third with his second stolen base, but was stranded 90 feet away. Joe McBride took the hill, and his defense stood strong. The Tigers cut the leadoff runner away with a fielder's choice and followed with an inning-ending double play. 
 
Kleysen Gabruck singled up the middle before swiping second. The Tigers stranded another runner, still looking for their first run. McBride retired the side in order, picking up his first strikeout. The defensive battle continued into the third with both teams reaching base, but neither team had anything to show for it. 
 
In the fourth, Campbellsville tallied two runs on two hits. Thomas Krueger singled into left, and with two outs, Tate Wischnack blasted a ball out to left for a 2-0 lead. The Blue Raiders quickly got a run back with two hits of their own. The fifth frame was quiet offensively due to Campbellsville turning their second double play of the game. McBride closed out his day in the sixth, stranding a runner in scoring position. 
 
The Tigers added one more insurance run in the seventh after loading the bases with no outs. Fernando Serrano scored Gabruck for the final blemish. Reid Turner entered in relief and slammed the door shut, sitting the side down in order. 
 
GAME TWO: Lindsey Wilson 5, Campbellsville 3
Game three of the series fell in favor of the Blue Raiders after Campbellsville held the early advantage. The first inning was quiet at the plate as Tristin Crusenberry picked up two quick strikeouts. Gabruck continued his solid day with a walk and scored from first after Wischnack doubled to left field. Cruseneberry hung another zero on the board after two Blue Raiders were aboard. 
 
Lindsey Wilson evened the game after loading the bases, but Campbellsville limited the damage, turning their third double play of the afternoon. LWU took the lead on a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth. The fifth went by quickly before Lindsey Wilson added a run in the sixth and the seventh, now leading 4-1. 
 
In the eighth frame, Campbellsville applied pressure, cutting into the Blue Raiders' lead. Fernando Serrano and Antony Gilbert scored two runs on a defensive throwing error by the pitcher. Lindsey Wilson scored the final run of the contest in the home half. on a two-out single, winning the final game of the series, 5-3.
