Both Tiger Tennis teams take down Lions

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Both the Campbellsville Tigers men's and (RV) women's tennis teams put on an impressive display on Saturday at home against Freed-Hardeman in Mid-South Conference competition. The men ended 6-1, and the women swept the Lions.
  • The Tigers secured one win in the doubles at No. 2 with Juan Ochoa and Alex Martin.
  • Alex Martin set the tone at No. 1 singles, dominating with a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
  • Juan Ochoa battled through a tight three-set match at No. 2, including a tense tiebreak, to secure a crucial point.
  • Elian Walther Jr. overcame an early setback, rallying to win in three sets at No. 3 singles.
  • Fabricio Mesia and Artur Yakubov continued the Tigers' momentum at Nos. 4 and 5 with straight-set wins.
  • Mariano Orsini closed out the match at No. 6, securing a convincing 7-5, 6-0 victory to seal the 6-1 triumph.
  • Valentina Curli took charge at No. 2 singles, swinging momentum in the Tigers' favor.
  • Jimena Palomo and Miho Akita kept the momentum at Nos. 3 and 4 with 6-1, 6-2 sets.

  • The men will take a road trip down to Bowling Green on Thursday, April 2nd, to test their skills against Western Kentucky University at 7 p.m. ET. The women will be back in action at home next week, hosting Midway University on Friday, April 3rd.
In doubles play, the Tigers quickly took control to secure the opening point. No. 2 and No. 3. At No. 2 doubles, Belen Cavallero and Evdokiia Volkova earned a 6-1 victory, while Valentina Curli and Ekaterina Amosova were dominant at No. 3 with a 6-0 win, sealing the doubles point for Campbellsville and setting the tone early in the match.

Singles play opened with a battle at No. 1 that proved to be the most competitive match of the day. Cavallero came out strong, taking the first set 6-1. Freed-Hardeman responded in the second set, flipping the momentum to win 6-2 and force a decisive third set. In the final frame, Cavallero regrouped and closed out the match 6-3 to secure the point for the Tigers.

From there, the Tigers controlled the remaining courts in straight sets.

Curli followed at No. 2 with a strong 6-1, 6-2 win. At No. 3, Jimena Palomo kept the momentum going, also winning 6-1, 6-2.

Miho Akita secured another point at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-2 decision, while Volkova added a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5. Andrea Pulido closed out the sweep at No. 6 with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 performance.

From doubles through singles, Campbellsville controlled every court, winning all six singles matches in straight sets to complete the 7-0 sweep over Freed-Hardeman.

In doubles play, Campbellsville battled but came away with one key win. The duo of Juan Ochoa and Alex Martin secured a 6-4 victory to put the Tigers on the board, though Freed-Hardeman claimed the other two courts to take the doubles point.
Singles play is where Campbellsville took full control.

Martin set the tone at No. 1 singles, dominating with a 6-2, 6-0 win. Ochoa followed at No. 2, battling through a tense three-set match and a tight tiebreak to secure a crucial point for the Tigers. Elian Walther Jr. overcame an initial setback, dropping the first set but rallying to take the match in three hard-fought sets.

The Tigers continued to roll as Fabricio Mesia earned a solid straight-set win at No. 4. Artur Yakubov added another point with a 6-2, 7-5 victory, and Mariano Orsini closed things out in convincing fashion with a 7-5, 6-0 win.

Campbellsville's dominance in singles proved decisive, capturing five of six courts and turning what began as a narrow position after doubles into a decisive 6-1 match victory.
