The Lady Tigers' offense struck like lightning during their opening drive of the night. Sophomore quarterback
Korine Talkington found wide receiver
Alex Odom deep down the field for a 57-yard touchdown to earn an early 7-0 lead.
The Campbellsville defense immediately fed that momentum right back to the offense. On Cumberland's ensuing drive, linebacker
Timaya Woody jumped a route to intercept Phoenix quarterback Madison Woodard, returning the ball 21 yards down to the four-yard line. Talkington capitalized on the short field, eventually threading a one-yard touchdown pass to
Monica Montes to close the first quarter with a 14-0 advantage.
Cumberland fought back in the second quarter, finishing off a long drive with their first touchdown of the contest to cut the Lady Tigers' lead in half. However, Campbellsville quickly widened the gap, with Talkington and Montes connecting for their second score of the night: a 13-yard touchdown pass. Just before the end of the first half, the Phoenix managed to score on an 18-yard touchdown, sending the teams to the locker room with Campbellsville holding a narrow 20-14 edge.
Coming out of the break, the Lady Tigers were eager to reclaim their commanding momentum. Talkington orchestrated a scoring drive that culminated in a 26-yard touchdown strike to
Natalia Gomez. The Campbellsville defense, bolstered by a crucial interception from
Angeline Beecher, continued to give the offense opportunities. It wasn't long before Campbellsville scored again, as Talkington found
Itzaan Rojas-Gibbs in the end zone for a four-yard touchdown.
Heading into the final frame up 32-14, the Lady Tigers managed the clock while keeping the pressure on. Although the Phoenix managed to reach the end zone one final time on a short touchdown to close the gap, Campbellsville had the final say. Talkington and Rojas-Gibbs connected once again, this time for a 14-yard touchdown, to definitively secure the 18-point victory.
Talkington finished the contest with a masterful stat line, throwing for 309 yards and six touchdowns with zero interceptions. The offensive wealth was shared heavily, as Odom (132 yards), Gomez (51 yards), Ava Kelley (46 yards), Montes (39 yards), and Rojas-Gibbs (34 yards) all consistently moved the chains. Defensively, Woody and
Emani Scott led the charge with eight tackles apiece to keep the Phoenix grounded.
