CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The postseason has officially arrived in Campbellsville. Following a historic regular season that saw the Tigers capture their first River States Conference (RSC) regular-season title and set a program record for wins, the #1-seeded Campbellsville University men's volleyball team is set to host the RSC Championship Tournament at Gosser Gymnasium.
The Tigers will open postseason play in the semifinal round on Friday, April 17, at 4 p.m. ET, facing a familiar and dangerous foe in the #5-seeded Cumberland University Phoenix.
Before the first serve of the tournament, the conference office unveiled the 2026 RSC All-Conference teams, with Campbellsville rightfully dominating the ballot. The Tigers led all schools with six total selections, reflecting the depth and top-tier talent that propelled them to the regular-season crown.
Four Tigers earned coveted First Team All-Conference honors: freshman outside hitter
Savvas Christou, sophomore libero
Andrew Ovalle, junior setter
Alonzo Vega, and junior middle blocker
Pedro Zavatini. Sophomore outside hitter
Ayoub Hamadache earned Second Team honors, while senior opposite
Denzel Madrigal secured a spot on the Third Team. Additionally, sophomore
Luke Stracener was named to the RSC Champions of Character Team, recognizing his leadership and sportsmanship on and off the court.
Campbellsville enters Friday's semifinal boasting a staggering 26-2 overall record, including a dominant 14-2 mark in conference action. The Tigers have been an absolute juggernaut offensively, overwhelming opponents with 13.17 kills per set while hitting an elite .298 as a collective unit.
The offensive scheme is masterfully operated by Vega, who eclipsed a massive milestone, finishing the regular season with 1,004 total assists, averaging 11.03 helpers per game. Vega's distribution has allowed four different Tigers to surpass the 200-kill threshold. The attack is paced by the dynamic pin duo of Christou (248 kills) and Hamadache (246 kills), closely followed by Zavatini (223 kills) and Madrigal (207 kills).
Defensively, Ovalle has been a stabilizing force in the backcourt, amassing 368 digs (4.13 per set) to keep the Tigers in system during extended rallies. At the net, Zavatini has proven to be a premier protector, logging a team-high 80 total blocks.
Friday's semifinal clash against Cumberland will be the ultimate rubber match. The Phoenix (9-7 RSC) advanced to the semifinals after surviving a five-set thriller against #4 St. Mary-of-the-Woods in the quarterfinals.
Cumberland is one of only two teams to blemish Campbellsville's record this year. On March 17, the Phoenix stunned the Tigers inside Gosser Gymnasium with a 3-1 victory, fueled by a massive 27-kill performance from First Team All-Conference selection Joao Infante.
However, the Tigers exacted their revenge just weeks later. Traveling to Lebanon, Tennessee, on April 7, Campbellsville outlasted Cumberland in a grueling five-set marathon (26-24, 25-20, 23-25, 21-25, 15-11). Zavatini took over the match with 17 kills and six blocks, while Christou inflicted heavy damage from the service line with six aces.
To punch their ticket to the championship game, the Tigers will need to neutralize Infante while utilizing their balanced offensive firepower to expose the Cumberland block.
The winner of Friday afternoon's tilt will advance to the RSC Championship game on Saturday, April 18, at 2 p.m. ET. They will face the winner of the second semifinal match-up between #2 Georgetown College and #3 Oakland City University, which is slated for 7 p.m. ET on Friday night.
All matches will be played at Gosser Gymnasium. Fans unable to attend can follow along via live stats and the free live stream provided on the Campbellsville Tigers YouTube channel.
